November 2012 THANKS TO WHOM? “What are you thankful for?” You will probably be asked this question often this month, but it’s really the wrong question. While it may be good for us to think on the things we are thankful for, we ought to consider whom we are thankful to as well. You see, true thankfulness comes from the heart and must be directed to someone. Thanksgiving is something to be given, and there has to be a receiver. You might be thankful for your new shoes, but to whom do you offer thanks? To be thankful for something without including the someone gives more importance to the thing instead of the one. So, “What are you thankful for?” It’s not a trick question—we ought to be thankful for things, but this thankfulness should lead us to the one who gave them. If you are a student, you should be thankful to your parents. There are many things that your parents do for you that you see regularly. They work hard to provide all the things you enjoy—clothes, toys, activities, your home, food, your education at BRCA, and much more. They protect you. They spend time with you—playing, helping with homework, reading, etc. Then there are the things they do for you that you will never know about. So, be thankful to your parents (and show them!). For us as parents, there are numerous people we should be thankful to—spouse, a pastor, a friend, a relative, a co-worker, a neighbor. What is it that someone has done for you lately? Well, make sure you are thankful to them (and show them!). For all of us, God is the Giver of all good things. If thankfulness comes from our heart and our heart comes from God, then we should give thanks in all things to Him. It may be your parents that give you something, but it is the Lord who enabled them to do so. Your spouse or relative may do a great favor for you; but, again, God gave them the mind and provision to do the favor. This season of gratitude, let’s determine to be just as thankful to the earthly giver and heavenly Giver as we are for what was given. Instead of just being thankful “for,” let’s also be thankful “to.” SO, WHAT’S A BIBLE QUIZ TEAM? Great question! Each year, our Christian school association (TACS) holds a Þne arts competition that includes a Bible quiz category. Several schools throughout the state intensely study a certain section of the Bible and practice frequently in preparation. The BRCA Bible Quiz Team has had much success over the years. Not only have they been state champions three times; but, more importantly, they have hid much of God’s Word in their hearts. This is a new year and a new teamÑtwo returning team members and Þve new. Miss Young will be coaching our team again this year, and here are the names of BRCA’s 2012-13 Bible Quiz Team (drum-roll, please!): Myles Hicks, Noah Scott, Charlie Cowart, Grayson Graham, Shekynah Inbarajan, Adam Reeves, & Caroline Vernon. They are studying, memorizing, and answering dozens of questions from the book of Acts. Please pray for our team as they practice every day at school and many hours at home until midMarch. GO BRCA!!! CURRENT EVENTS Nov. 6 Chapel/Pizza Day Nov.12-19 Thanksgiving Food Drive We are very pleased to be able to help the Good Shepherd Children’s Home for our seventh consecutive year. They house several young people plus a staff, and we would like to be a big encouragement to them this year. They have a special need for lunch-type items such as chips, fruit snacks, Easy Mac, etc. Other items would include paper plates/cups/towels/ napkins, plastic utensils, Clorox wipes, spaghetti noodles, ketchup, mayonnaise, kidfriendly cereals, drink mix-ins, cream of mushroom soup, etc. Use this opportunity as a tool to teach sharing and giving to your children and to be a blessing this Thanksgiving. Nov. 19 Report Slips Nov. 21 Thanksgiving Parties Each class will be having a party this morning that will include games and giving to others. This is a half day, so students should be picked up by 11:30. Nov. 22-23 Thanksgiving Break Have a wonderful break. Enjoy the family, fellowship, and especially the food! Keep Nov. 27 Collecting Box Tops! Chapel/ Pizza So far, BRCA has collected over Day 3,780 Box Tops! But donʼt stop now— continue collecting throughout the year. Ask relatives, church friends, & neighbors to collect them for you. Every little bit helps! BILL RICE RANCH 101 Every other year we do a series of articles on the different ministries of the Bill Rice Ranch. I hope this will give you a wider panoramic of what the Bill Rice Ranch really is. Last month, we mentioned that the Ranch is people, but to sum up the Ranch in two words it would be the words “revival work.” On staff are several evangelists that travel each week during the school year to different churches from Alaska to Florida to California to New England. While there, they hold revival services nightly where many are saved and even more Christians are helped by the Bible. Sometimes one of our song leaders will travel with an evangelist to lead the congregational singing, teach and lead the choir, sing special music, and host the kids’ meetings. Occasionally, we will hold areawide revival crusades. The Ranch will enter a city, and 8-10 churches will gather each night in a school gymnasium to hear the preaching. These usually last eight days, and they are a way to reach more people at one time. The New York City Evangelistic Trip, which we will be hosting again in January, is yet another evangelistic outreach. In the eleven years we have gone, we have handed out over 200,000 pieces of gospel literature in 8 languages and have seen over 750 accept Christ as their Savior. This is really the underlying objective of the Bill Rice Ranch – we desire to obey the Lord in sharing the gospel to everyone we can. This is also done through summer camp, retreats, our literature and music, and even BRCA. “Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.” (Mark 16:15) Bill Rice Ranch equals “revival work.” FALL RETREATS MBER NOVE 2-3 PICTURE THIS Still time to register... www.billriceranch.org Nov. 2 9-D Speak er s: 6+,3 )(//2: )7,1* 83/, $7)22' **5( ,1 &+ 35($ am, 62/,' Billy Ingr MEN NGING LE CHAL Preaching on: e ry with Bibl ge, Minist e, Marria Living!
