Mopps' Musings I would like to take few minutes to discuss school safety. We have a safety team that meets monthly at Test Intermediate School. During these meetings we discuss a wide range of safety measures including fire drills, tornado drills, Iockdown drills, evacuation policies, door security, and anything else that pertains to the safety of the students at Test Intermediate School. The safety of our students is of a high concern, because if students don't feel safe, they will find it more difficult to learn. Recently, the high school had to be evacuated for a suspected gas leak, and we had a city gas leak that forced the cancellation of school at Charles, and here at Test. With these two events, we felt it necessary to share information with parents about the procedures that will need to take place in the unlikely event that we need to evacuate Test. If it is necessary to evacuate Test, our first priority will be to get all staff and students to a safe location. During the transition to that location we will be unable to release any students to their parents. Once at the location, we have a procedure in place for parents/guardians to pick up students. For all student protection, photo identification will be required for students to be released to someone picking them up. A One Call, like what is used for delays and cancellations will be used to notify parents where students will be. There will be school personnel to direct visitors and parents/guardians as to where to go once they arrive at the evacuation site. It is absolutely necessary that parents/guardians remain calm and have patience throughout this process. We have a hope that none of these procedures will be necessary. When we have a Iockdown, students will not be allowed to be released to parents. We apologize ahead of time for any inconvenience this might bring you. Generally the drill only lasts 15 minutes. We have to have a fire drill every month, and a tornado and Iockdown drill at least every trimester. These drills allow students the opportunity to practice for dangerous situations that may arise. It is the policy of Richmond Community Schools not to discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, gender, national origin, age or disability in its educational programs or employment policies. The last round of Acuity is now over, and !STEP+ season is upon us. The first week of March brings the first round. This is the Applied Skills test, where students have to write responses in booklets. In May, we will have the multiple choice problems that will be taken on the computer. Please make sure that your child gets adequate rest and comes to school ready to shine and do their best. Our teachers have worked very hard, and feel very confident that they have done their part in teaching the students the standards that will be tested. It is reassuring to go into classrooms and see where teachers have charted class growth on learning the standards. Respectfully, Raw Alappc Students of the Month Something new is happening at Test! We now have "Students of the Month." Teachers nominate students for their excellent R.O.A.R skills. R.O.A.R stands for Respect, Organized, Accepting and Responsible. It has been several years since Test offered a book fair so it should be an exciting time. We are looking for interested parents to serve as volunteer workers at the fair. Whether you have helped with an elementary fair or you are a first time volunteer, we would love to hear from you. We need people who can run the cash register and circulate among the students. The office can help with background checks for those who do not have one on file. Contact Mrs. Marsee at 765-973-3412 if you are willing to help.
