NASA’s Journey to Mars
Cricket

We play cricket at the Olive Children
Foundation in Fremont, California. We
have two teams that are made up of
fifth graders but we welcome new
players of any age. The players are
Ady, Vaayun, and Aarav against
Mehul, Arjun, and Nisheet, but we
welcome new players. We play cricket
on our break time or free time.
Sometimes we just practice cricket
instead of playing a game. A game or
practice is always fun. The goal in our
cricket games is not to win but to have
a lot of fun. Sometimes it is very
important to give people extra turns
to have more fun. If someone isn’t
good at the game, we will give them
extra turns to bat to get better for the
future. At our after school we plan to
play in teams and play against each
other for fun.

In 2021, 4 astronauts will take off to
Mars in a spacecraft called Orion.
Orion will be used to explore deep
space. It will take humans farther in
space than we have ever been. It will
be launched from Kennedy Space
Center in Orlando, Florida. One of the
main reasons Orion can go into space
is because it’s lighter than other space
crafts. The Endeavor was very heavy
compared to Orion. Endeavor had 100
pounds of computing. Orion has zero

Game of Life 1B

I quickly drew my hand back. Blood
started to run down the finger to the
palm of my hand. I decided that the
dogs were out to get me. I was
weaponless and wounded, and the
dogs were just as big as be standing up
on their hind legs. I couldn’t fight
them, so I ran. I ran in the other
direction knowing that I would never
be able to fight both of them off. I
kept running away from the light, not
looking back to see if they had
followed me. My heels screeched
against the floor of the cave as I came
to a skidding stop. There were two
tunnels. If you think I should go left,
go to 3A in the next edition of The
Olive Newspaper. If you think I should
go right, go to 3B in the next edition .

The voice, which was neither inside my
head nor outside, was telling me not
touch anything with my invisible hand
except another part of my body that
didn’t include my feet. He told me that
the invisibility transfers from one host to
another, and at some point I would need
this. I try to keep this in mind as I follow
the used-to-be headless dog. I made sure
to keep my distance from the other dog,
who was still snarling at me. I carefully
placed my steps behind the formerly invisible dog while intently stari ng
through my hand. I do not notice when
the dog I was following stops. The other
dog continues to walk. If y ou think I
should follow the snarling dog, go to 4A
on page 5. If you think I should turn back
and walk in the other direction, go to
4B on page 5.

Memories from Holidays of 2015
The Spooks of Halloween!

Mwa-ha-ha!!!!!!!!!!!! It is the night of
halloween, when each child strolls down the
street, with terror within. Many of us may
have seen ghosts, mummies, witches, and
many other monsters. We even see disney
princesses, mermaids, and many more. Well,
what is Halloween, and how did even start?
Columbus didn’t even discover America; the
Vikings did. Yet we still treat him like a hero,
for he did lead to the colonization in the New
Land. I don’t think it is wrong for us to honor
his journeys, but we shouldn’t treat him like
a hero, for he is really the cause of great
tragedy among the Native Americans. As a
result, some states and school have decided
to celebrate Indigenous People's’ Day
instead to honor the hardships of the people
indigenous to this land.
Which one should we celebrate? Should we
celebrate Indigenous People's’ Day or
Columbus Day? There are valid reasons for
celebrating both. We should definitely honor
Columbus’s journeys; without him you would
not be standing where you are right now!
But we should also take into consideration
that Columbus is not so much of a hero as
we thought he was. Columbus started the
hatred that lead to the sharp decrease in
Native American population. So in honor of
this day, a week before Columbus day
I asked around to see what people thought
about the issue. Below are the comments
made by students of Berkeley Academy and
their thoughts on this subject.
Halloween is the festival of harvesting.
Halloween has its roots in the ancient, preChristian Celtic festival of Samhain, which
was celebrated on the night of October 31.
That festival was celebrated on that day
because the Celts, who lived 2,000 years
ago in the area that is now Ireland, the
United Kingdom, and northern France,
believed that the death returned to earth
on Samhain. A lot of us honor this holiday,
by “trick-or-treating.”

Rishita: I don’t think Columbus Day is
good because it’s bad for Native Americans.
Our school doesn’t celebrate it for that
reason.
Srija: I find it stupid to be celebrating
Columbus for enslaving the Native people of
the land. Indigenous Peoples’ Day it is.
Adyant “Ady”: (Ady looks up Columbus
Day on the internet. “The day he found the
‘New World’” he recites.) I think we should
celebrate Indigenous People's’ Day because
the amount of Native Americans is
decreasing. Even though Christopher
Columbus came to “the new world” yada
yada yada, he is the reason natives
Americans are disappearing. I like Columbus,
I but think Indigenous Peoples’ Day is better.

candy hunt, decorated the building, were
allowed to costumes, and many more! In the
candy hunt, there were all kinds of candy.

Mehul: This was Columbus: He gets to the
“New Land.” He’s like, “Oh, this is my land
now.” He demands for gold and if he doesn’t
get his gold he kills them.

Aaran: Columbus enslaved natives. Ninety
percent of the Native Americans died
because of diseases brought by Columbus.
When you were a younger human with a
bright eyes and an empty head, someone on
this planet must have told you that
Columbus discovered this land, AMERICA,
and he was to be worshiped like a god, for
that. Now like the munchkin you were, you
soaked up the knowledge like a thirsty
sponge, not questioning for a moment if the
information was correct. The truth is that
Nisheet: Columbus is an assassin who
enslaved and killed many Native Americans.
If they didn’t give him gold, he would cut
their hands off and let the natives bleed to
death. Columbus wasn’t even the first
person to reach America. The Vikings
reached there five hundred years before.
Most of the Natives were killed by Columbus
or his men. Barely any were actually killed by
Thanksgiving is a great holiday where you
have a feast and talk about all of the things
that you are thankful of. Abraham Lincoln
made it a federal holiday in 1863 during a
war. The first Thanksgiving Day was
November 26, 1863.

I tried to touch the base of the neck of the
invisible-headed dogs, but I hit something a
soft a foot over the neck. A dog’s head
appeared at the tips of my fingers, or at least
where they used to be. My whole hand had
disappeared. I shrank back screaming, until I
heard a voice telling me to follow the dog. If

Avengers
A Review

intersection of Mission Saturdays, and closed
on Blvd. and Anza Street. You should go try
out the food at Mission Burger!
Therefore, you can play freely. If you want to
play agar.io with a little more spice, try out a
private server! When you play on a private
server, you can get special abilities like a lot
of mass in the beginning, or quick reforming
when you split! Try not to get eaten!
PS: The rating for this hamburger restaurant
is 4.1. They’re open from 11-6 Monday
through Friday, 11-4 on

Wonderful Home Away
From Home

Avengers: Age of Ultron black and white

People are saying that this is a really
good movie. For me, this is a 100
percent good movie that Joss Whedon
made, which was way better than the
first Avengers with Loki. The Avengers
are way better than X-Men and
Fantastic Four and Avengers would
win because they have more super
abilities. Iron man is the leader and is
really rich. Captain America can throw
a shield and run really fast. Thor can
use a hammer to hit anybody.
Four Points is a wonderful hotel/suit. I went
there for my birthday, in San Diego. My
family and I really enjoyed time there, as we
also went to many tourist spots. This hotel
includes spacious rooms, a laundromat, a
restaurant, a gift store, a “bakery”, a golf
course, a swimming pool, a gym, and many
more; it’ll cost anywhere from $99-$239 a
night, based on which location you go to. I
really recommend you to go there with your
family when you go on vacation, if you’re
going to a faraway place, and you have this
hotel/suit near you. It’s a three-star hotel,
but in some places, it’s four! Four Points
rocks!

Mission Burger

Sundays. I went to Mission Burger
Wednesday for lunch. As you can already
understand, Mission Burger’s food is AMAZE!
They have burgers, corn dogs, french fries,
We have a lot of games at Olive Children
Foundation. Not any games, but video
games! Many people (including me) play this
game called agar.io. It can get really fun and
addicting once you play it. You have to eat
cells and try to get bigger. But as you get
bigger, you get slower. It may not be fun for
you but it can be addicting. You have only
one main goal in this game: get first on the
leaderboard. I would recommend trying out
this out if you are only 7 or above. People
sometimes inappropriate names and skins. I
just put on “no names” and “no skins”.

Fiction Contest of 2015
Hello World! I am the Editor (yes,
of course my title comes with the capital E).
Once upon a time, when I was unable to
engage the wonderful students in my
Newspaper class, I decide to make a funky
contest. I told all the students they had an
hour to write a short story/piece of flash
fiction, but they couldn’t just write about
anything. Their story had to include a
magical talking tree, a desert in the middle of
the ocean, and a cat named Dog.
These children wrote such amazing stories
that I felt as if I was obligated to share them
with the world. They deserve to be
recognized for the thought and one hour of
torture from the minute hand that was put
into to making these stories. I hope you like
them!
Zzzzzzzzzzzzzz, a fly buzzed by, and
the cat shooed it away.
“Dog,” called Rebecca.
“Yes,” groaned Dog the cat.
It was one particularly warm morning of
summer in 2015. Rebecca was in search of her
cat Dog, who was hiding. Extremely bizarre!
“Where are you, my little pussy?”
Dog didn’t want to be seen, so he went
into a room in which he had never been. There,
he saw a washroom; here he flushed himself
down the toilet, and entered a magical world.
That was when he noticed that he was on the
Eouronean desert, in the middle of the Atlantic
Ocean. Once he reached, Dog met a magical tree
which was the color of the unicorn poop
(rainbow).
“WOW! How amazing!” Dog thought. “I
which I was that color. Just how amazing that
would be!”
“Hi Dog, I know where you came from,
and why you came; I know everything, because I
am the king of the living. In case you don’t know
where you are, you are in Eouronania.”
“I think I’d better get back going back to
my own world now; Rebecca, might be looking
for me with her family, friends, etc.”
Then, the tree said, “come here and I
shall teleport you back to your own world, Earth,
and in a jiffy, and Rebecca was so glad to see
her pet back in front of her eyes.
“YAY!” she screamed and never felt
something missing in her, at least with her cat.

Once there was a cat named Dog. Dog
was swimming in the sea when the biggest tidal
wave pushed him far out into the sea. Most cats
hated the water, but Dog was a great swimmer.
He pushed his way through the current until he
reached a mysterious deserted desert island. He
decided to set up camp in the desert. For days
and days he looked for trees, animals, or people.
He finally met a dog named Cat.
“How did you get here?” asked Cat.
“A big tidal wave pushed me to this
island,” replied Dog.
“I will show you how I can survive,” said
Cat.
“How?”
They made their way to a tree in the
middle of an island. It had golden apples
growing.
“Take one,” Cat commanded.
Dog took an apple and he felt as strong
as he could ever be. He thought of a mansion
and the mansion he wanted was there. Dog went
into the mansion and there was a scratching
post, and water. There was a cat bed and a
doggy bed.
“I need to keep the apples for myself.
I’m sorry, but I need to kill you,” Dog said.
“No!” Cat screamed
Dog asked a servant to kill Cat. The next
day, Dog went to get an apple, but none but none
were left. Every day for months Dog went to get
an apple, but not one grew. On October 29,
2017, Dog asked a servant to cut down the tree.
The axe fell.
“Get off my family lands,” the tree
commanded in Cat’s voice.
“Cat?” Dog replied.
“Yes. Gaea gave the tree to Hera. s
gave this land and this tree to my great greatgreat grandfather. Get off my lands or die.”
“No!”
A lightning bolt struck Dog, and he was
wiped off the face of the planet. Cat came back
to life. He ate an apple and put a force field
around the island so no one could use the tree
for bad reasons.

Once upon a time, there used to be big
brat, a cat named Dog. Dog visited his aunt for a
whole week and learned how to meow. He was 10
years old and had a very wild imagination.
“Can I sleep?” asked Dog.
“No,”
replied his aunt.
Dog was stranded on a desert island in
the middle of a black ocean. There was nothing
except sand, cracked coconuts falling off a tree,
and a fish eating Mission Burger burgers.
“Where am I?” Dog wrote to himself.
“On an island in your dreams”
“Who said that?”
“I, the coconut”
“I must be hit by a coconut” muttered
Dog to himself.
Dog turned around and found himself staring at
a coconut with a mouth.
“My suspicion is true”
“I need to get out of here”
“I have an idea! You must punch yourself
40 times”
40 painful minutes later, Dog had a blue
face. He felt his baby tooth, the one that had
stayed put for 8 years, fall out.
“Now what?” said Dog awkwardly.
“Pinch yourself reallllllllly hard.”
“Heck no!”
“Or I’ll do it myself.”

Bonk! The tall tree fell down. The cat’s
name is “Dog”. It ran across the desert sand
as it tripped over the brown bark of the tree.
The green striped cat could only see the tree
and water surrounding the desert island. Dog
pounced up the tree and vanished after going
into the dark green leaves of the tree.
Dog teleported to the other side of the
desert island and met a dog named Bob. Bob
came from the hotel nearby called, Luxurious
Palace.
Behind the hotel, servants were standing
side by side
“We should save the servants, right?”,
said Dog.
“Ok”, said Bob.
They sprinted across the road like the
speed of lightning. Suddenly, a servant kicked
Bob and said sorry.
”OUT NOW LITTLE BEASTS!” The man
yelled. They pounced on his black suit and
scratched his head.

It was dark, and there was nothing in sight. All I could
hear was pitter patter, pitter patter. Cold water
dripped from above. The tunnel had only one exit, and
I needed to get outside. If I didn’t, then we had already
lost and I would never accept that. I looked for a way
out but the cave looked like it extended forever. Then,
I saw a twinkle. It was small, but there was light. I
followed it hoping it would lead to the end of the
tunnels.
I walked for minutes. Soon those minutes turned to
hours, and those hours to days. I had been walking for
days, following the light, and I had not gotten any
closer. I almost gave up, but then I heard growling. It
was low and provocative. I looked around to find dogs
made of bones, or at least I thought they were dogs.
One was headless while the other snarled at me. I
didn’t know what to do, but I had a strange urge to
touch them, but I knew I could only touch one. Which
one did I touch?

I followed the snarling dog into the light. As I
walked behind the dog, I continued to observe
my invisible hand. I just couldn’t believe it
wasn’t gone. I couldn’t see it. I’m very grateful
that invisibility doesn’t hurt. Then I hit a wall.
