Hands Provides HOPE - Hands of the Carpenter

Hands of the Carpenter is a faith-based, nonprofit
organization passionate about serving single mothers
and widows in need. Hands provides HOPE…beginning
with automobile repair and maintenance in an effort
to support their desire for economic self-sufficiency.
For each woman Hands serves, the need for automobile
repair is immediate. Without it, she can lose her job.
Without a job, she can lose her home. And suddenly,
a seemingly simple repair can lead to homelessness.
Hands operates alongside Hands Automotive in a social
enterprise environment to provide sustainability. Hands
Automotive is a full-service repair facility – open to the
public – that uses all of the resources it generates to
further support the women served.

...beginning with auto repair & maintenance
Automobile Repair
Repair is an immediate need for single mothers and widows. It often stems from people
taking advantage of them, lack of education about automobile maintenance and an
inability to pay for that maintenance.
•one-time repairs to sustain self-sufficiency by preventing job loss
•partnership with the women served for two years. In those two years,
Hands commits to providing all maintenance, repair and education
for the woman who will commit to the program
•volunteer-led Car Care Clinics where maintenance and safety
inspections are provided to prevent costly repairs
•a community of support, and a means to meet in small groups
with each other
Statistics
•Approximately 30% of the households led by single females in Jefferson County live on
incomes below the Federal poverty threshold of $22,239.
•The number of Colorado single mothers living in poverty increased from 30.4% in 2008 to
37.1% in 2010. For those with children under the age of five, that percentage rose to 50.2%.
•More than 90 cents of every dollar donated to Hands goes towards client services –
providing hundreds of repair and maintenance jobs per year
