Metal Castings :
Metal Castings of Bronze are probably the most
durable Art form in existence; Bronze artifacts created more than four thousand years ago are still
found in museums. Unlike the mass made products of our industrial age, Bronze Castings are individually created Art pieces. They can only be produced one at a time by skilled craftsmen as was
done by the ancient artisans who first developed
the art of the lost wax process. Each Bronze sculpture is unique.
The full size sketch will be carried out before starting the full size clay model.
Although patination would eventually occur naturally, chemical methods
can accelerate the maturation of the
patina in antique green, statuary
bronze, golden bronze and antique
silver (aluminium).
After the customer has given his approval, a
bozzetto (scale model in clay) will be made.
Bronze is an excellent material for exterior statuary because it weathers well and ages gracefully. The elements, pollution
and acid rain can affect the patina, but not the bronze. We would recommend that a coat of natural bees wax be applied
to help your sculpture maintain its condition.
Bronze casting involves many steps and takes several
weeks to complete properly. A rubber mould of the original, full-size sculpture is made. This mould is used to form
a wax figure, a perfect copy of the original sculpture. A
Demetz Art Studio artist gives the wax model its finishing
touches.
The melted bronze is poured through an opening in the
cast and spreads through the interior, filling the
spaces left by the way. The bronze then cools and
solidifies taking its final shape.
Note: For statues cast in aluminium, the process is the
same. The advantage of aluminium is that it is much lighter
for installation and that the antique silver patina will result
brighter on dark walls.
The bronze casting is cleaned by various successive
chemical steps which requires great care and technical ability.

Custom Bronze Statuary.
The Demetz Art Studio custom sculptured this 16
foot Bronze Our Lady Star of the Sea statue.
The Bronze statue was then gilded with 24 Karat
Gold leaf. The statue commemorated the 50th
Anniversary of Our Lady of the Lake Catholic
Church in Lake Ozark, Missouri. Mounted on the
34 foot base, this statue serves as a sign of welcome and hope to their many visitors.
