Volume 15, Issue 05 Ozzie Doesn't Disappoint May 14, 2015 President’s Letter Doug Phillips Ozzie Doesn't Disappoint It looks like the Wizard of Oz has done it again in the 2015 NFL Draft. I can only think of a few occasions where the Ravens have had a mediocre draft. ESPN Analyst Mel Kiper Jr. ranked the Ravens Draft an A-. Only four other teams out of thirty-two were given the same grade. Here's a quick recap of Kiper's reaction to our picks, "The Ravens knew exactly what they needed and they went and addressed both spots with two great picks to start it off. Getting Perriman at No. 26 is a great value (Kiper liked him as high as No. 14) and then finding a pass-catching tight end in Maxx Williams gives them two big playmakers on that side of the ball that they needed. Then finding Carl Davis gives them depth and was a good value. "Breshad Perriman could have been off the board by No. 14, and I wouldn't have blinked," Kiper said. "To get a big (218 pounds), fast (sub-4.3 speed) big-play threat such as this at No. 26 is a great get. You bet Perriman needs to be more consistent with his hands, but there's some Dez Bryant to his game. Maxx Williams was a player the Ravens coveted, and to get him at No. 55 overall was good value. Both he and Perriman could be impact players from the rookie class, which is rare on a good team." Among their many long standing services to the community is the quarterly road cleanup. Led by current President and founder Doug Phillips, and Road Cleanup Chairman, Pat Wright, the Nest No. 1 volunteer members maintain a section of Wheel road just west of Rt. 543. The road cleanup project is dedicated to former Nest #1 member, Bud Bitzer, who originally proposed the road cleanup activity as well as providing annual scholarships to worthy students from each of the eleven Harford County high schools. (cont. from page 1) ”Ozzie Doesn’t Disappoint” I'm excited about our picks this year and despite our tough schedule, I think the Ravens are once again poised to make the playoffs! June is a very busy month for our Nest! Try to stop by the HonFest on the 13th where a number of our members will be selling raffle tickets. If you cant make it to Hampden, there will be a Road Clean Up that Saturday morning also. June 20th marks our 14th annual golf outing, so come out the day before Father's Day for a great time. On the 28th we have the Ironbirds game with pre-game festivities at the Greene Turtle starting at 3 o'clock. To round out a busy June agenda, I'd like to announce our first ever Ravens Nest No.1 Guest Bartender Charity Night on Thursday, June 18th. Pat Wright and yours truly will be behind the bar serving up your favorite beverages at the Tower back bar from 6pm to 9pm. Our own Bob Copper and his partner in crime, Ed Pabst from "This Your Monkey" have graciously donated their time to play classic and current tunes to liven up the event. Proceeds will benefit ARC of Northern Chesapeake and our Scholarship Fund. Please join us as Pat and I play Keystone Cops behind the bar! I'd like to thank our members who came out to the May 1st First Friday event to sell our raffle tickets. Your time and dedication is very much appreciated. The response to our Ravens Nest Orioles bus trip has been awesome. There are only 4 spaces available so come and get 'em. Take note, your tickets will be handed to you on the bus to Oriole Park on game day. For June our guest speaker will be Tony Lombardi from Ravens 24x7 Networks. Tony will discuss our draft picks and take questions from the floor. Please make a note that our meeting in June will start at 7pm so Tony can start speaking at 7:30pm. As always, GO RAVENS!
