The 7th grade has had a very good beginning to their season with two wins at Shawswick and Madison with the only loss coming against a tough Columbus Central team. The team has had solid performances from several players but the of the current standout players are Cody Ruble, Lane Weddle, and Isiah Fontanez. All three players have made considerable contributions on the offense and defensive sides of the ball. The next game for this team will be September 3rd at home versus Jennings County. The 8th grade team is off to a difficult start losing all three of their games. The team is growing every day and becoming a more cohesive group. Although winless the team has had several bright spots thus far. Adam Carter has performed well in his new role as the starting halfback ,he has also stood out on the defensive side of the ball playing a down tackle or a linebacker. Brendan Smith has run the owl offense as the quarterback and leading rusher. On the line the team has welcomed the aggressive play of newcomer Jackson Nay. Overall the team continues to improve and looks forward to trying to get their first win over upcoming rival Jennings County. “Relentless SAYFL Pushes Game Dates Back The Seymour Area Youth Football League (SAYFL) has moved its start date back to Saturday, September 12th. The main reason for the move is to give coaches and players more time to practice and get acclimated to their equipment. Many players joined their respective teams late and needed more practices in order to ensure a safe game environment later on. The SAYFL has two tackle football divisions: 3rd/4th grade and 5th/6th Grade. Please visit the SAYFL tab on the Pursuit of Excellence” Seymour Football website at www.seymourowlsfootball.com! We are looking forward to another great season of Youth Football! Please e-mail the SAYFL at [email protected] if you have any questions or would like to register! JV Football Takes Down Silver Creek On Monday, August 24th, the JV Owls headed south to take on the Silver Creek Dragons. The Owls scored on the opening possession of the game and held on for a 6-0 victory. The Owls scored on a pass from Freshman Quarterback Nathan O’Mara to Junior Wide Receiver Bradan Thomasma in the first quarter. Because Silver Creek does not have a Freshman team, the Owls were able to play a mix of their Freshman and Junior Varsity teams against Silver Creek. This allowed multiple players to play multiple positions on both sides of the ball. Kevin Corrales and John Barrett played well to lead the Owls defense in shutting out the Dragons. With the win, the Owls start the year 1-0. The Freshman team will open up their Freshman season with a home game against Jeffersonville on Saturday at 10AM. The JV will play right after the Freshman, with kickoff scheduled for 11:30AM. Please come out and support your Freshman and JV Owls!
