Page 2 The school raised £150.49 for red nose day! INSETDAY Please make a note that the school will be closed on Tuesday 18th April & 26th May 2017. BLOOMING NICELY IN THE EARLY YEARS This term in the Early Years Caterpillars (Reception) and Butterflies (Nursery) have been learning about the topic ‘Growing’. Caterpillars explored the story ‘Jack and the Beanstalk’, then planted our own beans! We looked at the different colours, shapes and sizes of the beans, then carefully placed one each at the bottom of a flower pot. We then filled the pots with soil and discussed how the soil feels in our hands, we all agreed that it felt “fluffy”. We then watered our plants and placed them by the window, to ensure sunlight would reach them. We are being very careful not to touch our plants and are now waiting patiently for them to grow… And look how much they’ve grown so far! Butterflies have been growing our own green beans. Here is a picture of how we took turns in filling up our plant pots. We know how important it is to look after our plants therefore we are in charge of watering our own plants. During our ‘Reception class’ assembly we performed ‘Jack and the Beanstalk’, we were really happy that everyone came to see us as we worked really hard. Congratulations to Rinelee Watson-Hayles for achieving the first Gold certificate 2017. Maths & Pancakes in Key Stage 1! This term in maths Tadpoles (Year 1) and Frogs (Year 2) have been learning all about data handling. In preparation for Shrove Tuesday, we decided to make a tally chart to find out what the most popular pancake fillings in Key Stage 1 are. We then created bar charts to display this information. The results were in and Nutella, honey and strawberries and cream were Issue 7 A huge thank you to the many parents/carers who attended and participated the Post Ofsted Coffee Morning. Your contributions have been invaluable , many of which will feed into the School’s Action Plan. For those who did not attend I would like to share what was discussed at the meeting . The meeting commenced with the strengths and areas for development of the inspection. We then went off into groups to discuss further with parents how we could improve the three areas- Leadership and management, Teaching, Learning and assessment and outcome for pupils. Your comments will feed into our action plan and we have already started addressing them– there is now a comment box in the Reception area. Page 3 POST OFSTED COFFEE MORNING. Teaching learning & assessment More feedback on progress, More investment in Maths and Literacy Workshops for parents. More booster clubs e.g. Yrs 4 & 5 Leadership and management ● Action plan on what parents want, with a time scale and reviewing it regularly Follow up coffee morning…. You Not just focusing on attainment said this; we did this Recognise, good progress, attitude. More rewards/praise for high achievers, ● Online attainment and progress of individual children that parents can access, like secondary school ● Guided Reading inviting parents in to read with their children greater challenge for all learner ● Encourage the children to celebrate what they are good at clear favourites. We had lots of fun putting our favourite pancake toppings onto our pancakes and eating them! We are increasing outdoor learning in all areas of the curriculum. Last week Tadpoles have been learning about capacity. We estimate the amount of water that would go into each container, measured it with cups of water and checked our estimation. Over the last few weeks, Spiders have been working with the Curiosity workshop on challenging, thought provoking questions/ideas. We shared our ideas, along with 4 other schools at the prestigious Iron Mongers Hall in Central London. In the build up to the conference we learnt how to write speeches and how to present and perform to a large audience. Here’s two we’d like to share – what if money did not exist? What if I lived forever? Parents wishes 1,2,3... Outcomes for our pupils World book Day 2017 The children thoroughly enjoyed dressing up as their favourite book character. Thank you to parents and carers for taking the time and effort to making it such a memorable day for the children and staff. The children enjoyed talking about their costumes and sharing their favourite book. A busy term for Ladybirds and Spiders An artist sketched the children ideas into this great poster! Volume 1617 Well it’s been a busy term in Ladybirds. We have been reading a story called ‘Gregory Cool’ which is set in the Caribbean. We have learnt about the differences between Tobago and England. In RE we have learnt all about the Creation comparing what Christians believe to other religions. Finally, we have been getting ready for Easter. On Ash Wednesday we visited St. Anne and All Saints Church on South Lambeth Road. We learnt all about the meaning of Ash Wednesday and why it is an important day. Congratulations to the winners for the best book character costume . They received a £10.00 book token for their wonderful costumes. Early Years Girl = Zarah (Rec) Boy = Dante (Nur) KS1 Girl = Kyara (Yr 2) Boy = Surafel (Yr 1) KS2 Girl = Aliya (Yr 3) Boy = Makhie (Yr 5) Dragonflies explore the Stone Age During our topic lessons we have been learning about life in the Stone Age. The children have been focusing on a range of art activities such as: painting, sculpting and weaving. During our sculpting lessons the children created a replica of a sculpture called ‘The Thinker,’ which was made during the Stone Age era. The children utilised a range of sculpting techniques by using a range of tools. Grasshoppers investigating patterns with Fractions In our Maths lesson, we had applied our mathematical knowledge of adding fractions (with different denominators!) in order to investigate a unique pattern that evolves from the answers. It is very important to use your times table knowledge to add fractions of different denominators as you will need to find the LCM (lowest common multiple) between the denominators. As an inclusive, Christian school and Children Centre we will nurture, inspire, empower and expect every child to achieve their very best in life, work and the community.
