Samuel Maizel Bio - American Bar Association

Samuel Maizel is a partner in Dentons US LLP, the world's largest law firm, with offices in more than 50plus countries. Sam's practice focuses on restructuring, insolvency and bankruptcy, in- and out-of-court
in all industries, but he leads the firm's healthcare industry restructuring efforts nationwide. Before
joining Dentons, Sam was a partner at Pachulski Stang Ziehl & Jones, a national bankruptcy firm (19972015), and previous to that he represented the federal government in bankruptcy, district and appellate
courts nationwide as a trial attorney in the U.S. Department of Justice's Commercial Litigation Branch
(1991-1996). He has also served in U.S. Army's The Judge Advocate General's Corps (1985-1991),
including service in Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm, for which he was awarded the Bronze Star
Medal. Previously he served as an Infantry Officer in the 101st Airborne Division and the 3rd U.S.
Infantry Regiment (The Old Guard) (1977-1982). Sam has lectured extensively, is widely published, and
been interviewed on television and radio on topics related to the healthcare industry and
bankruptcy. Among many other honors, he has regularly been named a "Super Lawyer" in an annual
region-wide peer survey, and was named a "Best Lawyer in America" for Healthcare in the 21st edition
of Best Lawyers in America. Sam has his J.D. from George Washington University National Law Center
(1985) where he won the Jacob Burns Prize for excellence in appellate advocacy, and served as
President of the Moot Court Board. While in law school Sam served as a legal intern in the National
Security Council Staff in the Reagan White House. Sam has an M.A. from Georgetown University (1983),
where he majored in Government. Sam has a B.S. from the United States Military Academy at West
Point (1977). While at West Point, among other things, Sam served as an intern in the US Department
of State, NATO Affairs Office, and set the Academy record for the Marathon. He is based in Los Angeles.
