The doctoral program has been re-accredited through the year 2017. * Questions related to the program’s accredited status should be directed to the Commission on Accreditation: Office of Program Consultation and Accreditation American Psychological Association 750 First Street, NE Washington, DC 20002-4242 Phone: (202) 336-5979 E-mail: [email protected] Web: www.apa.org/ed/accreditation Other questions should be directed to the program: Doctoral Program Associate Psychology Clinic 611 Cross Street Ypsilanti, MI 48197 Phone: (734) 487-0047 E-mail: [email protected] Web: http://www.emich.edu/psychology/programs/phd.php Admissions Information The expectation is that successful applicants will have at least the 50 th percentile on each section of the GRE. Additionally, students admitted typically have had at least a 4.5 (out of 6.0) on the written section of the GRE. The undergraduate GPA of students admitted to the program is usually above 3.50 on a 4.00 scale. All applicants must have successfully completed 20 credit hours in psychology that include courses in General Psychology, Statistics, Abnormal Psychology, and Experimental Psychology/Research Methods. In addition to GRE and GPA scores, student match with our program's philosophy and with faculty research programs is an important consideration. Potential applicants should consider the interests and expertise of our faculty and compare them to their own educational goals. Even the best student would be ill served if accepted to a program without mentors who could facilitate and share their interests. The EMU Clinical Psychology Program follows the scientist-practitioner model of training. Research experience is weighed heavily in the decision making process. Students accepted to the program typically have prior experience in research. Our faculty cover a broad range of theoretical orientations toward clinical practice. Most students find ample opportunities to match their clinical interests with clinical placements available at EMU. However, students with strong and specific clinical interests should evaluate whether EMU offers relevant experiences. Students entering with a master’s degree will have their tuition prorated based on the number of transfer credits accepted. Students entering the doctoral program after completing two years in one of our clinical master’s programs, will receive 60 credits of tuition. In addition to tuition, all admitted students receive an annual stipend of $16,500 per year. Students entering with a bachelor’s degree or a master’s degree from another institution will receive this stipend for their first four years and students from one of our clinical master’s programs will receive this stipend for their first three years. Students are responsible for the tuition and fees beyond their doctoral fellowship including the internship year. Doctoral fellowships include a parking pass and extended library privileges. Current students cover the New Graduate Student Fee ($125) once during the first semester of enrollment (see Program Costs table above) and their own health insurance (the University offers an optional low cost plan). More extensive health coverage is also available for an additional cost. Doctoral students are also eligible for loans from the Financial Aid Office. The graduation fee for all students is currently $110.00 and doctoral students are responsible for this fee when applying for graduation with their master’s and/or doctorate.
