Advent/Dinner Candle Kit
Welcome
Thanks very much for buying this kit from MakingYourOwnCandles.co.uk!
This kit enables you to make Advent or Dinner Candles - the exact number
and type depends upon the specific kit you’ve purchased.
Take Care
Making candles involves heat so you need to be careful. This kit is not
suitable for young children and any under 18s should be carefully supervised.
Wax should never be heated over a naked flame or it might ignite. Never
leave melting wax unattended and take great care when handling molten
wax.
When you come to burning your candles, make sure you do so on a flat
surface and never leave them unattended.

Dinner candle mould
50g Blended Paraffin Wax
50cm wick
1 wick pin
Blutack
1g dye (if making Dinner Candles)
Advent transfer (if making Advent Candles)
You also need two saucepans (one large, one small). These can be old or cheap but mustn’t be used
subsequently for food. Finally, you’ll need scissors.
Instructions
1.
Fill your larger saucepan to a third of its volume with water and bring it to the boil.
2.
In the meantime, take the top off the mould and pass the wick through it.
3.
Seal the top with blutack. Try not to get any blutack inside the hole.
4.
Replace the top on the mould and drop the wick through the body.
5.
Turn the mould onto its base and place it on some newspaper ready for pouring.
Instructions contd...
Heat your wax
6.
Put your wax in the small saucepan.
7. Once the large saucepan has begun to simmer, place the small
saucepan inside it so that the wax inside can begin to melt. Stir
continuously.
8. Once the wax has fully melted, add the dye (dinner candles
only) and stir until it melts.
9.
Carefully pour the melted wax into the mould.
10. Place the wick pin into the groove on top of the mould.
11. Pull the wick tight across the middle of the wick pin and
secure it to the side of the mould using blutack. The wick must
be tight!
12. Place into the fridge to cool.
13. Leave for 4 hours.
Release from mould
14. Remove the blutack from the side and bottom of the mould
15. Remove the plastic top
16. Gently pull on the wick at the wide end. Give it a tap if necessary but be
careful, especially of the narrow end. The candle should slide out. If it doesn’t, it’s
not cold enough yet - put it back in the fridge.
Transfer (Advent candle)
17. Cut around one of the transfers in your kit.
18. Take a shallow plate or dish and add warm water to a
finger-nail’s depth
19. Drop your transfer into the water. Wait for it to separate
20. Holding your candle upside down at the base, press the
transfer onto the candle
21. You can now slide it into precise position before allowing
to dry
