Allergy Awareness

students with life threatening peanut allergies. We
continue to be a vigilant
“Nut Aware”
school and ask
that you send
peanut-free
lunch & snacks
to AJC!

most anaphylactic injuries
and deaths come from
cross-contamination, i.e. a
trace of peanut butter that
is left on a hand, a knife, a
desk, on playground
equipment or on another

Hello Parents & Guardians,
February seems to have flown by with the world's attention on
the Olympics and the regular business of starting up second
term at school. Thanks to all for continuing to send your children
to us happy, healthy and ready to learn. Thanks again to all of
the hard work by our dedicated teaching staff in preparing Term
1 report cards and IEPs for second Term. Our Olympic Play Day
had to be re-scheduled due to the bus cancellations and it will now
be held on Thursday, March 6th. Please send your child(ren) prepared for a day of outdoor play.
Looking ahead into this term I wanted to highlight a few things that will make "May Madness"
very fun here at AJ. On Saturday, May 3rd the AJ Parent Council will be hosting a
Rummage and Used Book Sale here from 9am-1pm. The proceeds raised from this
community event will be used to augment the ever-growing technology in AJ classrooms.
Near the end of that month we will be holding a Maji Mradi fundraiser on May 22nd. This
will come in the form of a whole-school play that will take place in the evening as well as
the annual book fair and silent auction on that same night. Please mark your calendars
with these two exciting events and more information will come over the next few months.
May will, of course, also be busy with track meets and EQAO testing for our grade 3 and
6 students.
Finally, I am very excited to acknowledge the growth AJ is making in terms of technology
and 21st Century Learning tools. We have recently acquired 50 iPad minis for classroom
use and it is in our plan to acquire more mobile devices as we move into next school
year. In addition, our school website is now “live” and our Twitter feed gathers more
followers every week. Please take the time to 'connect' with us in these ways. All future
newsletters, parent council meeting minutes and other important information will appear
on the website as it will become our primary method of communicating with parents and
guardians.
I welcome your comments, questions and feedback always. Please do not hesitate to
contact me for any reason. I am very proud to be part of a school community that works
so diligently to ensure a well rounded and meaningful education for your child(ren).

March Muffin Mondays
In the month of March, the Character Committee will be selling muffins
to raise money for our MAJI MRADI. All the money will go towards
building a well in Ghana, Africa so that students there do not need to
sacrifice their education in order to gather water for their families. The muffins will
be $1.00 and will be sold in the front foyer at first snack on Mondays in the month of
March (with the exception of the first Monday after March Break - sales will be
Tuesday that week). Please help support this amazing cause. The muffins will be
mouthwatering! Check us out on the 3rd, 18th, 24th and the 31st.
MASC Performance
A huge thanks to the MASC Group of
“Masabo & Fana Soro” who performed
at A.J. Charbonneau in February. Also a
special thanks to the TD Bank Group for
their financial assistance. The whole school
enjoyed the vibrant performance (at right).
