The Penn Transplant Institute is pleased to offer a unique program for patients who have a living donor that is incompatible. The program, called paired kidney exchange, matches kidney transplant recipients who have an incompatible donor with another recipient and donor who are in the same situation. Paired exchange programs can also take place with more than two pairs – creating multiple transplants called chains. These programs increase the number of transplants and decrease the time spent on the deceased donor transplant waiting list.
