13:20 WHERE IS THE MONEY FLOWING?
An examination of areas in which the funds industry will gain
business in the coming year. Where will the fundraising be
happening and where will the projects be taking place? And will
certain types of project, such as infrastructure and healthcare,
be more prevalent? Are we likely to see a geographic shift?
Speaker: Mark Rawlins, Group Partner, Collas Crill
09:10 PANEL: FUNDS – THE STORY SO FAR
A round-up of funds in the islands in the last 12 months. What new
business has come into the islands, what new products, and what
is happening with listings? How do the figures stand up and how
are the islands keeping up with their competitors and benchmarks?
And what of the impact of the Panama Papers and of Brexit?
Speakers: Fiona Le Poidevin, CEO, CISE; Mike Jones, Director,
Policy, JFSC; Simon King, Director, Aztec Group; Ben Robins, Partner,
Mourant Ozannes (Moderator); Andrew Whittaker, Chair, GIFA
10:00 CURRENT TRENDS
Drilling down into current trends in Jersey and Guernsey – are we
seeing a bigger divergence in terms of what business is being done
on which island? To cover real estate, private equity, infrastructure,
debt and the rise of hedge funds in Jersey. And are the services
being offered in the islands changing at all?
Speakers: Evelyn Brady, Partner, PwC; Stuart Pinnington, Group
Head of Institutional Client Services, JTC Group
10:30 BREAK
11:00 REGULATION, LEGISLATION AND TAX UPDATE
An update on where we are now across all the key pieces of
regulation and legislation – including AIFMD, FATCA, CRS and
BEPS. How has industry reacted, what has been learned and what
has yet to be implemented? And what is happening in the tax
arena, including BEPS, diverted profits and carried interest.
Speakers: Robert Mellor, UK Asset Management Tax Leader, PwC;
Andrew Weaver, Partner, Appleby
11:40 PANEL: FUND ADMINISTRATION – MANAGING THE RISK
What risk issues are fund administrators squaring up to on a
day-to-day basis? What challenges are arising in risk management,
compliance and AML? How does the theory of a risk-based
approach compare with the realities at the coal face? What exactly
does best practice in fund administration look like?
Speakers: Brett Allen, Head of Product and Client Solutions,
BNP Paribas Securities Services; Charlotte Cruickshank, Director,
Langham Hall Fund Management (Jersey); Pippa Davidson,
Head of Funds, Fairway Group; Justin Partington, Global Head
of Funds, Sanne (Moderator)

13:55 ISLAND INNOVATION
The Channel Islands may have the investment vehicles, but how are
they innovating/making themselves easier places to do business?
On one hand there are technological advances, such as apps and
websites for CDD and KYC; on the other, there are broader, more
‘environmental’ approaches, such as PwC’s Centre of Excellence.
Speaker: Mike Byrne, Chairman, Jersey Funds Association;
Frances Watson, Partner, Ogier
14:30 PANEL: WHAT NEXT FOR FUNDS? GETTING HEARD
ABOVE THE NOISE
This final panel looks at the key subjects featured during the
day and examines those that they think will present the biggest
challenges and opportunities in the next year. How should the
islands move forward? Will EU passporting be the big difference
– indeed, do the islands really need the passport, with NPPRs
‘doing the job’ already? And what needs to be done to attract
investment managers to the islands?
Speakers: Amy Bryant, Chief Operating Officer, Jersey Finance;
Lisa Cawley, Partner, Kirkland & Ellis (Moderator); Gavin Farrell,
Partner, Mourant Ozannes; Giles Johnstone-Scott, Director, Elian;
Dominic Wheatley, Chief Executive, Guernsey Finance
