Monday: Pass out syllabus and review class procedure and assignments.
Core Curriculum: # A-K1.1.2 Plot events
Objective: Students will evaluate plot structure and development.
Lesson: Students will create a list of activities that they have most enjoyed in their previous
reading and writing classes. Students will discuss these activities in groups and work together to
consolidate their ideas down to four or five and identify the reasons that made these assignments enjoyable.
Students will share these ideas with Mrs. Fuchs in order to incorporate these ideas into my planning
throughout the year.
Students will discuss the literary elements that make up a story; conflict, rising action, climax,
falling action, resolution, and plot. Students will diagram the literary elements that make up a fictional
story.

Core Curriculum: #A-K1.1.2 Plot events/summarize
Objective: Students will summarize the key details and events of a fictional text as a whole.
Students will read the story, The Wise Old Woman in order to identify and analyze the key terms in a
fictional map.
Lesson: Students will orally read, The Wise Old Woman. During/After reading: Students will identify all
literary elements in the fictional diagram with the correlated events from the story. Students will make
comparisons between retellings and summaries. Students will define and analyze the parallel episodes in
Wise Old Woman. Students will complete comprehension worksheet 21.

Writing/Grammar Objective: Students will write an informative essay about their summer. Students will
define and analyze specific writing terms; focus, content, organization, style, and conventions in order to
convey their ideas through writing.
Lesson: Teacher and students will discuss the journal creed and it will be posted in their journals.
Students will begin the writing process by brainstorming a list of their summer activities. Students will
create categories for their list in order to organize their three body paragraphs. Students will write, peer edit
and conference with the teacher.
