RAW MATERIALS REQUIRED
The most common industrial process for the manufacture of
nitrous oxide is based upon thermal decomposition of ammonium nitrate. There are a number of other nitrous oxide gas
production processes eg. direct oxidation of ammonia gas or
purication of off-gas from adipic acid production etc.

Ammonium Nitrate is decomposed in the Melters pots at a
temperature of approximately 250°C~255°C (482°F~491°F).
to give a mixture of Nitrous Oxide & super heated steam.
NH4NO3 + ▲ → N2O + 2H2O (▲H= -59 KJ/g-mol)
at the same time impurities like Ammonium Nitrate fumes,
nitrogen & other oxides of nitrogen carried along with nitrous
oxide process gas. The steam & impurities are removed by
scrubbing with water, caustic soda and sulphuric acid in a
sequence Nitrogen present in traces is removed by bleeding
from top of the vessels where Nitrous Oxide is stored, after
compression by compressor, Nitrous Oxide thus obtained
is liquied & lled into storage tanks or directly to cylinders.
