Did Ya Hear This?
A fellow was driving down the freeway in L. A. and he saw a pig running downthe side of the road.
He was worried that the pig would
get killed, so he pulled over and put the pig in the passenger seat next to him.
He did not know what to do with the pig so when he
saw a policeman stopped by the road and he pulled in
behind him.
He told the officer the story and asked him what he
should do with the pig. The officer said that he should
take it to the zoo.
The fellow said that sounds like a good idea so off he
went.
The next day the same officer saw the same man going down the freeway and he noticed that the pig was
still in the passenger seat next to the man.
He motioned for the guy to pull over to the side of
the road, and when they stopped he walked up to the
man and said,
"I thought I told you to take that pig to the zoo" .
The man looked up at the officer with a big smile
andsaid, " I did officer, and we had such a wonderful
time at the zoo, we are going to Disneyland today".

Embroidery
When I was a little boy, my mother used to embroider
a great deal. I would sit at her knee and look up from the
floor and ask what she was doing.
She informed me that she was embroidering. I told her
that it looked like a mess from where I was.
As from the underside I watched her work within the
boundaries of the little round hoop that she held in her
hand, I complained to her that it sure looked messy from
where Isat.
She would smile at me, look down and gently say,
"My son, you go about your playing for a while, and
when I am finished with my embroidering, I
will put you on my knee and let you see it from my
side."
I would wonder why she was using some dark threads
along with the bright ones and why they seemed so
jumbled from my view.
A few minutes would pass and then I would hear
Mother's voice say, "Son, come and sit on my knee."
This I did only to be surprised and thrilled to see a
beautiful flower or a sunset.
I could not believe it, because from underneath it
looked so messy.
Then Mother would say to me, "My son, from underneath it did look messy and jumbled, but you did not
realize that there was a pre-drawn plan on the top.
It was a design. I was only following it. |
Now look at it from my side and you will see what I
was doing."
Many times through the years we may have asked our
heavenly Father what was happening to our lives, and
how to make sense of it.
As we progress in understanding of his Fatherly and
compassionate nature, we in time come to understand
that what seems unclear to us from the underside, is
beautifully taking form on the other.
The dark threads may seem jumbled and a mess, and
we are inclined to develop a negative attitude in our
life, despite our Fathers comforting assurances.
Yet with a confident faith in the final state of God’s
will and purpose accomplished, we will be permitted to
see the “top” side of the embroidery.
It’s not your position that makes you happy---It’s your
disposition.
Attitude
The longer I live
The more I realize the impact of attitude on life.
Attitude, to me, is more important than the past,
Than education,
Than money,
Than circumstances,
Than failures,
Than success,
Than what other people think or say or do.
It is more important than appearance,
Giftedness or skill.
It will make or break an organization,
A school, a home.
The remarkable thing is we have a choice every day
Regarding the attitude we will embrace for that day.
We cannot change our past.
We cannot change the fact that people will act in a certain way.
We cannot change the inevitable.
The only thing we can do
Is play the string we have.
And that is our attitude.
I am convinced that life is 10 percent what happens to me
And 90 percent how I react to it.
And so it is with you.
================================
What You See Is What You Get
Your life at any time can become difficult.
Your life at any time can become easy.
It all depends upon how you adjust yourself to life.
Positive thinking is simply reacting positively to a
negative situation.
So try to see the good in every situation.
You cannot always control your circumstances.
But you can control your own thoughts.
Things seem to turn out best for those people who can
make the best out of the way things turn out.
It’s not the situation, It’s your reaction to the situation.
The reality of your life may result from many outside factors, none of which you can control.
Your attitude, however, reflects the ways in which
you elevate what is happening to you.

A Sassy Lady
A WOMAN'S WEEK AT THE GYM
This is dedicated to everyone who ever
attempted to get into a regular workout routine.
Dear Diary,
For our anniversary this year, my Husband (the dear)
purchased a week of personal training at the local health
club for me.
Although I am still in great shape since being a
high school football cheerleader 43 years ago, I decided
it would be a good idea to go ahead and give it a try.
I called the club and made my reservations with a
personal trainer named Christo, who identified himself
as a 26-year-old aerobics instructor and model for athletic clothing and swim wear.
My husband seemed pleased with my enthusiasm to
get started! The club encouraged me to keep a diary to
chart my progress.
MONDAY:
Started my day at 6:00 a.m. Tough to get out of
bed,but found it was well worth it when I arrived at the
health club to find Christo waiting for me.
He is something of a Greek god - with blond hair,
dancing eyes and a dazzling white smile. Woo Hoo!!
Christo gave me a tour and showed me the machines.
I enjoyed watching the skillful way in which he conducted his aerobics class after my workout today. Very
inspiring!
Christo was encouraging as I did my sit-ups, although
my gut was already aching from holding it in the whole
time he was around.
This is going to be a FANTASTIC week-!!
TUESDAY:
I drank a whole pot of coffee, but I finally made
it out the door.
Christo made me lie on my back and push a heavy
iron bar into the air then he put weights on it!
My legs were a little wobbly on the treadmill, but I
made the full mile.
His rewarding smile made it all worthwhile. I feel
GREAT-!! It's a whole new life for me.
WEDNESDAY:
Driving was OK as long as I didn't try to steer or
stop.
I parked on top of a GEO in the club parking lot.
Christo was impatient with me, insisting that my
screams bothered other club members.
My chest hurt when I got on the treadmill, so
Christo put me on the stair monster.
Why in the world would anyone invent a machine
to simulate an activity rendered obsolete by elevators? Christo told me it would help me get in shape and
enjoy life. He said some other nonsense too.
THURSDAY:
The exercise Gestapo was waiting for me with his
vampire-like teeth exposed as his thin, cruel lips were
pulled back in a full snarl.
I couldn'thelp being a half an hour late - it took me
that long to tie my shoes!
He took me to work out with dumbbells. When he
was not looking, I ran and hid in the restroom. He sent
some half starved bimbo to find me.
Then, as punishment, he put me on the rowing
machine -- which I sank.
FRIDAY:
I loathe that lunatic Christo more than any human
being has ever loathed any other human being in the
history of the world.
If there was a part of my body I could move without
unbearable pain, I would beat him with it.
Christo wanted me to work on my triceps. I don’t
have any triceps! And if you don’t want dents in the
floor, don’t hand me anything that weighs more than a
sandwich.
The treadmill flung me off and I landed on a health
and nutrition teacher.
SATURDAY:
Christo the Monster left a message on my answering
machine in his grating, shrilly voice wondering why I
did not show up today. Just hearing his voice made me
want to smash the machine with my planner; however, I lacked the strength to even use the TV remote and
ended up catching eleven straight hours of the Weather
Channel.
SUNDAY:
I’m having the Church van pick me up for services
today so I can go and thank GOD that this week is
over. I will also pray that next year my husband will
choose a gift for me that is fun -- like a root canal or a
hysterectomy.
I still say if God had wanted me to bend over,he
would have sprinkled the floor with diamonds!!!
The only way I can brush my teeth is by laying the
toothbrush on the counter and moving my mouth back
and forth over it.

Engineers
Bubba and Ray were standing at the base of a
flagpole, looking up. A woman walked by and asked
what they were doing.
"We're supposed to find the height of the flagpole," said Bubba, "but we don't have a ladder."
The woman took a wrench from her purse,
loosened a few bolts, and laid the pole down. Then she
took a tape measure from her pocket, took a measurement, announced, "Eighteen feet, six inches," and
walked away.
Ray shook his head and laughed. "Ain't that
just like a woman! We ask for the height and she gives
us the length!"
Bubba and Ray are currently doing Government work.
---------------------------------------------------------Choosing a Major
During my senior year, I reluctantly took a required
psychology course.
On the first day, the professor commented on each
student’s major, trying to provoke a response.
It was working, because some students were becoming defensive. When it was my turn, I told him I was a
music major.
“So,” asked my professor, “what does your father
think of you wasting your education to study music?”
“He’s just thankful,” I shot back, “that I didn’t go
into psychology.”

A man was on his way home with a new car, which
was absorbing all of his

decided he had everything with him. Yet the feeling
persisted.
When he reached home, his daughter ran out,
stopped short and cried, “Daddy,
where’s mommy?”

I love my apartment and have been here
since the opening in Jan. 2003. In that
time I have never considered moving.
In other words, it’s home to me! If you
need any service at all, consider your
request being taken care of in an
unbelievable short amount of time! It’s
so family oriented here and get togethers

looking for an apartment where
everything is first class, I’ve found it and
you can too.

Helpful Hints
WHO KNEW?
Vinegar, Again
If you suspect the rinse cycle isn’t getting all the soap
out of your clothes, add 1 cup of white wine vinegar
while they are rinsing. The vinegar will dissolve the
alkalinity in detergents as well as give the clothes a
pleasant fragrance.
Toothpaste? Molasses?
Get this – you can get rid of grass stains with toothpaste. Scrub it into the fabric with a toothbrush before
washing. Or rub the stain with molasses and let stand
overnight, then wash with regular dish soap by itself. If
all else fails, try methyl alcohol, but be sure the garment is colorfast.
No More Ironing
Banish wrinkles easily by removing clothes from the
dryer the second it stops. Fold or hang them up immediately.
Without Order, We Have Chaos
Your clothes will get cleaner if you turn the washer on
while it’s empty, add the detergent, and let the detergent
dissolve and mix with the water before you add the
laundry. Putting detergent onto the clothes that are still
dry can cause dyes to fade.
These Colors Don’t Run … Thanks to Salt?
Washing colored material for the first time can be risky
unless you wash it in salt first. Really. Add ¼ to ½ cup
salt to the wash water (about 1 teaspoon per gallon of
water). The colors will not run.
Another Great Stain Remover
If you have non-greasy stains on washable fabrics, an
excellent spot remover can be made using 2 parts of
water to 1 part of rubbing alcohol. Test for colorfastness by applying to an inconspicuous area first.
Shaving Your Sweater
A pilling problem with your sweater? A disposable razor does a wonderful job of removing small pills from
sweaters.
Nice and Easy
Wash woolen garments with great care, since wool
fibers are very weak when wet. Don’t full, stretch or
wring out the garment, Instead, roll it in a towel and
squeeze the excess water out, and then dry flat.
Good Tip or Freakishly odd? You Make the Call
To clean stuffed animals, just place them in a cloth bag
or pillowcase, add baking soda or cornmeal and shake.
Honey, I Shrunk the Sweater
If you shrink a woolen garment, soak it for 15 minutes
in a mixture of ½ cup hari conditioner and 1 gallon
lukewarm water, and then squeeze out the excess solution. This will help to soften the fibers so you can gently stretch the article back to the original size. Another
method is to dissolve 1 ounce Borax in 1 teaspoon hot
water, and then add it to 1 gallon warm water. Place the
garment in the solution, stretch back to shape, and then
rinse it in 1 gallon warm water with 2 tablespoons whit
vinegar added.
Cheaper and Just as Good
To make your own spray starch, purchase a bottle of
liquid starch concentrate and mix equal parts of liquid
starch and water in a spray bottle.
Unused Floss is Preferred
When buttons pop off, sew them back on with unwaxed
dental floss, which is much stronger than thread.
Blame the Fabric Softener
Does it seem as though your clothes get greasy stains
on them in the laundry? It may not be your imagination. One cause: adding undiluted fabric softener.
Always dilute it, because it can cause stains that look
greasy. Remove these stains by pretreating the fabric
with a paste made of water and detergent, or with a
prewash stain remover.
If You Have Kids, Read On
Salt Talk
To remove dirt from difficult areas like shirt or blouse
Clean silk flowers easily by placing them, bloom end
collars, mix 1/3 cup of liquid detergent, and 1/3 cup
down, in a plastic bag with 2 tablespoons of salt. Hold
ammonia in a spray bottle. Rubbing shampoo into the
onto the stems and close the bag, then shake vigorarea can also do the job. Just be sure you never mix am- ously. The salt will attract the dust.

He went to Remedy Hearing Aids for a set of hearing

The elderly gentleman went back in a month for a

The gentleman replied, “Oh, I haven’t told my family
yet. I just sit around and listen to the conversations. As a result, I’ve changed my will three times!”

Silly
Sally
A blind guy on a bar stool shouts to the bartender,
"Wanna hear a blonde joke?"
In a hushed voice, the guy next to him says, "Before
you tell that joke, you should know something."
Our bartender IS blonde, the bouncer is blonde. I'm a 6'
tall, 200 lb black belt. The guy sitting next to me is 6'2",
weighs 225, and he's a rugby player.
The fella to your right is 6'5" pushing 300 and he's a
wrestler. Each one of US is blonde. Think about it, Mister.
Do you still wanna tell that joke?"
The blind guy says, "Nah, not if I'm gonna have to
explain it five times."
-----------------------------------------------------------Silly Sally was overweight and consulted her doctor
for advice. The doctor advised that she run ten miles a
day for thirty days. This, he promised, would help her
lose as many as twenty pounds.
Silly Sally followed the doctor's advice, and, after thirty
days, she was pleased to find that she had indeed lost the
pesky twenty pounds.
She phoned the doctor and thanked him for the wonderful advice which produced such effective results.
At the end of the conversation, however, she asked one
last question: "How do I get home?”
“What do you mean?” asks the doctor
Silly Sally replies, “I’m 300 miles away now!”
-----------------------------------------------------------Silly Sally reports for her university final exam which
consists of mainly true and false questions.
She takes her seat in the examination hall, stares at
the question paper for five minutes, and then in a fit of
inspiration takes her purse out, removes a coin and starts
tossing the coin and marking the answer sheet: true for
heads and false for tails.
Within thirty minutes she is all done, whereas the rest
of the class is still working furiously.
During the last few minutes, she is seen desperately
throwing the coin, swearing and sweating.
The moderator, alarmed, approaches her and asks what
is happening.
"I finished the exam in a half hour," she replies. "Now
I'm rechecking my answers."
------------------------------------------------------------
Someone saw Silly Sally eating a Tootsie Roll Pop and
asked her, "So, how many licks does it take to get to the
center of a Tootsie Roll - Tootsie Pop?"
Without a thought, the blonde replied,
"Beats me, but it took almost the whole day just to lick
through the wrapper."
-----------------------------------------------------------Silly Sally calls her boyfriend and says, "Please come over
here and help me, I have a jigsaw puzzle, and I can't figure
out how to get it started.
Her boyfriend asks, "What is it supposed to be when it's
finished?"
Silly Sally says, "According to the picture on the box,
it's a tiger." Her boyfriend decides to go over and help
with the puzzle.
She lets him in and shows him where she has the puzzle
spread all over the table.
He studies the pieces for a moment, then looks at the
box, then turns to her and says, "First of all, no matter
what we do, we're not going to be able to assemble these
pieces into anything resembling a tiger."
He takes her hand and says, "Second, I want you to relax.
Let's have a nice cup of tea, and then....." he sighed, ...let's
put all these Frosted Flakes back in the box."

Spotlight Recipes:
Easy Homemade Potato Soup
Ingredients:
3-4 medium sized potatoes, cubed.
3 ½ cups vegetable stock/broth (or
2-14 oz cans)
1 onion (Spanish or white) or
2 leeks
1-2 large cloves of garlic
4 tablespoons Olive oil
Dill (fresh or dry)
Salt & Pepper
Milk/Cream (optional)
Butter (optional)
Serves about 4 hungry adults
This recipe is quick and simple. But best of all, it tastes
great! Start with a few potatoes and cube into equal
sized pieces. Dice onion and garlic. If you aren’t a huge
fan of onions you can use 2 leeks instead, they have a
similar taste, but milder. If you choose leeks, use mostly
the white bottoms.
In a large pot, heat the olive oil over medium-high
heat. Toss in the potatoes and onion (or leeks). Wait a
few minutes to toss in the garlic. Season with salt and
pepper. Cook onions until they begin to look translucent and the potatoes are semi-soft add the stock just
enough to cover everything plus an inch.
Bring to a boil and then let simmer for
20-30 minutes, until the potatoes
crumble at the poke of a fork.
Add dill to taste.
With an immersion blender,
you can blend everything
together right there in the
pot. Otherwise, use a standard blender pouring the
contents of the pot in batches
and blend. After all of the soup
has been blended return it to the pot on
low-simmer heat. If you like your potato soup
richer, add 1-2 cups of whole milk or half and half. If
you’re trying to keep it a little healthier, add a tbs. (or
two…) of butter and omit the cream. It gives it that extra richness without all of the calories. Add more salt/
pepper/dill to taste and let the soup reduce to desired
thickness. Serve with a dollop of sour cream/chives
and/or some fresh-grated parmesan cheese.

Four Sons
There was a man who had four sons. He wanted his
sons to learn not to Judge things too quickly. So he sent
them each on a quest, in turn, to go and look at a pear
tree that was a great distance away.
The first son went in the winter, the second in the
spring, the third in summer, and the youngest son in the
fall.
When they had all gone and come back, he called
them together to describe what they had seen.
The first son said that the tree was ugly, bent, and
twisted.
The second son said no it was covered with green
buds and full of promise.
The third son disagreed; he said it was laden with
blossoms that smelled so sweet and looked so beautiful,
it was the most graceful thing he had ever seen.
The last son disagreed with all of them; he said it was
ripe and drooping with fruit, full of life and fulfillment.
The man then explained to his sons that they were all
right, because they had each seen but only one season in
the tree's life.
He told them that you cannot judge a tree, or a person,
by only one season, and that the essence of who they
are and the pleasure, joy,
and love that
come from that life can
only be measured at the end,
when all the seasons are up.
If you give up when it's
winter, you will miss the
promise of your spring, the
beauty of your summer,
fulfillment of your fall.
Don't let the pain of one
season destroy the joy of all
the rest.
Don't judge life by one
difficult season.
Persevere through the difficult patches,
and better times are sure to
come in time.

Our Bible class teacher asked a woman to read

When the woman finished, she paused, looked up

Fred, playing as a single at St Andrews was teamed
with a twosome. After a few holes, the twosome finally
asked why he was playing such a beautiful course by
himself. He replied that he & his wife had played the
course every year - for over 20 years - but this year she
had passed away and he kept the tee time in her memory.
The twosome commented that they thought certainly
someone would have been willing to take her spot. "So
did I" he said - "but they all wanted to go to the funeral."

The fact is - No one knows what they haven’t heard!
They’re not convinced of not hearing well & no one really wants to wear hearing aids.
Advice for Friends & Family:
• Don’t Nag - Calmly Discuss. Communication is important to you & you want both to feel comfortable.
• Don’t Ignore the Problem. Don’t make an issue of it every day, but hearing loss doesn’t go away.
• Don’t Compensate. If you talk louder than normal or put up with loud TV, then you’re helping them to
pretend there isn’t a problem. Yes, sometimes you have to speak up to be understood. But it is important to
let them know that you’re talking louder than normal. - - We’re here for Family Counseling

“I just had to meet the fellow responsible for making the delightful monthly Spotlight
available for FREE to all.” “I called and asked for an appointment. Others told me I had
a hearing problem, but Walter convinced me that I really did have a hearing loss. He
fitted me with a pair of hearing aids that are working just fine. I appreciate his follow-up
service enabling me to best use my hearing aids.” “Walter has become a friend in deed
for one in need!”
