Do’s and Don’ts > Email invitations and newsletters Invitations and newsletters Here are some simple templates for invitations/ newsletters meant for email distribution. There are templates in three different variants, in three colors and in both Norwegian and English. The templates are made for MS Outlook and may be edited in the same way as any other e-mail. (This opens a new email.) 3) Swop the contents in the template with your own. Important! It’s not certain that those who receive the email can view the original setup correctly. Differing email programmes, security settings and other issues that you have no control over, can cause problems. as attachments and can be perceived as a security risk. 3) Avoid getting caught in a spam filter All email suppliers use spam filters and there are many local users as well. If your newsletter gets caught in a spam filter, there’s a risk that your other messages will also end up there. Spam filters use various criteria when deciding whether an email is spam or not. Some words may be blacklisted, and phrases like “CLICK HERE”, “FREE OF CHARGE!”, “INCREDIBLE OFFER”, can also end up in a spam filter. Don’t use capital letters to “SHOUT” the message. This may also be perceived as spam Newsletter etiquette: 1) Don’t send unsolicited newsletters! Let people sign up for your newsletter. 2) Let people cancel your newsletter by email Remember: 1) Focus on content. Write concise sentences. Pictures and layout can be modified along the way, but the text will always come through. 2) Be careful when using pictures. Most email systems block images automatically, and the receiver must himself double click to download images. Pictures are sent 4 A green alternative!
