Why Do We Have Leap Year?
Every four years, an extra day is added to the calendar, which we call Leap Day. What’s the purpose of this? Our calendar consists of 365 days, but it actually takes the Earth slightly longer to orbit the sun—365.2421 days. Leap Day exists to ensure the calendar stays in line with the Earth’s movement around the sun. the Roman calendar. The calendar was later The Egyptians first recognized the need for an extra day to Caesar (“Julian Calendar”) and finally, Pope Gregory XIII made a few additional changes to tweaked by Julius keep the calendar close to the solar year. The “Gregorian Calendar” was revised in 1582, and is the calendar we still use today. For more information, check out http://www.history.com/news/ask-‐history/why-‐do-‐we-‐have-‐leap-‐year. University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee Office of Charter Schools: Parents Survey
During Parent/Teacher Conferences all families will receive in an envelope Parent Surveys. This survey
is done to determine your level of satisfaction at Woodlands School - Bluemound Campus. UWM is
asking that you fill out only one survey unless your opinion about the school, teachers, homework, etc.
is different depending on which child is being asked about. If your opinion is the same for all of your
children, please only complete one survey. These surveys are anonymous.
Please complete the survey(s) and return to the box outside of the office during conferences.
Thank you in advance; your cooperation is very much appreciated!
Branching Out in French – Bravo!
5/6 students have been rooting for one another and branching out
in French as they join together in special after school activities. In
December, 27 students participated in a manicure celebration
“Chez Madame.” We watched a French video demonstrating French
manicures and then students did their own creations at our very
own salon! Even the boys had a great time creating intricate nail
designs and Packer patterns. This month, 45 students attended a
Muzzy Marathon and pizza party. Students “revisited their
childhood,” watching a beloved French animated movie from a new
perspective. They also enjoyed pizza, veggies, oranges and Biscoff
cookies. Plans are in the works for the next activity. Merci mille
fois to 6th graders, Elie, Kiana and Alexis, who have worked with
Madame to research, plan and promote the activities. Whether
during class or after school, it’s Tous pour un, un pour tous! (All for
one, one for all!)
