Introducing the I Have…Who Has…? Text Feature Game The I Have…Who Has…? Text Feature Game is fun and easy to play. The two color-coded sets of cards present text features related to two different topics. The greenbordered cards explore the life of Roald Dahl, and the orange-bordered cards examine volcanoes. Each set asks students to think about unique text features. The Roald Dahl Cards provide questions that require students to understand the definition of any given text feature, such as, Who has a text feature that uses bars to show and compare information? The Volcano Cards are slightly different in that they require students to identify text features from a description of their usage. For example, Who has a text feature that helps you understand what a photo is about? A Text Feature Reference Mat is included for added support. Post it at the center and advise students to reference it during the game. Model the I Have…Who Has…? Text Feature Game With four players, each with four cards, players must stay focused, as their turn could come at any moment. Before play, remind students to use the Text Feature Reference Mat if they have trouble identifying a text feature. The game starts with the player who has the Start Card. He or she reads the card aloud and asks who has the next text feature in the sequence, such as, “Who has a text feature that helps you understand the order of events by seeing them displayed on a line?” The Start Card is then placed face up on the table. The player with the card that shows a timeline must respond and then read the lower half of the card, asking who has the next text feature. Once this is done, the card is placed to the right of the Start Card. All teaching guides can be found online.
