Objectives for entire week: Students will use Greek Roots as
clues to word meaning, determine the meaning of words and phrases
as they are used in a text, analyze the impact of specific word choices
on meaning and tone, demonstrate understanding of figurative
language, word relationships and distinctions between word
meanings.

Silent Reading
Activities
1. Greek Root phobia
2. Listen to “O Captain My Captain”
3. Students number off 1-3. Annotate everything you can
independently for your assigned stanza.
4. Get into your numbered groups and compare, add,
collaborate on your chosen stanza. Each group receives a
transparency. 1-2 people from each group of 6 stanzas
presents their annotation.
Assignment:
1. Greek Root Quarterly Test on Friday. Know the roots
Meter, nym, opt, path, phobia, and crat from previous quarter
