Update – July 15

Update – July 15th
Work has progressed well, and all the demolition is now complete. The ceiling is down, and the
tiles ground down ready for new tiling. Work to replace the shower pipework and controls has
begun, and next week the new tile work will begin. All good news so far!
Men’s Plus Locker Room
In order to provide much needed improvements to the Locker Room, we will be closing the back / wet / tiled area for the months of July and August. Why are we doing this? The tiled area is very worn, with tiles coming up due to moisture penetrating through them and the water proof membrane failing. It has reached the end of it’s lifespan, and it no longer makes sense to provide minor patches. What work are we doing? The floor, wall and ceiling tiles will be removed and replaced. All plumbing work behind the tiles will also be replaced, while it is exposed. What areas are affected? The back / wet area – from the entrance to the pool to the old weigh scales. This includes the showers, whirlpool, steam room, sinks, toilets and drying area. The dry areas of the locker room will remain open throughout, including TV lounge and work out area What are the timescales? Work will begin on Monday, July 4th. It is scheduled to take a maximum of eight weeks, meaning it will be completed by Labour Day. We will continue to work with our contractors to work towards an earlier completion. Can I still use the Plus? Yes. You will be able to access the Plus to collect your Tote Box, to get changed (if you wish) or to use the TV Lounge or work out area. How will I shower / steam? Once you have collected your Tote Box it is recommended that you use the General Locker Room to change, shower or steam. We will provide towels and personal care products in both locker rooms. Plus staff will move between both spaces. What about the Whirlpool? There is no whirlpool in the General Locker Room. This means you will not have access to one in July and August What about the elevator / stairs? There is no elevator access onto the second floor. This means those with mobility issues will not be able to access the General Locker Room, and therefore not shower. We are happy to speak to those individuals directly to offer alternatives where possible. What disruption should I expect? Contractors will be moving through the Plus to get to their worksite, and removing waste. There is no other alternative entrance sadly. There is also likely to be some noise and dust, but we will be working with the contractor and our staff to limit this. We may put a temporary carpet along the main walkway to limit damage. Is there anything else I should be aware of? To complete the plumbing work it may be necessary to remove some sections of ceiling tile in the dry areas, including the change areas and work our area. These will be replaced once the work is complete. Secondly, you should be aware that Tote Boxes do not fit inside the lockers provided upstairs, as they are smaller than the Plus. This means you will need to leave them unsecured on top of the lockers. We will increase our staffing upstairs to provide an additional level of security, but we would encourage you to remove anything of value, or ensure it is securely locked inside the locker. What will be provided in the General Locker Room? Towels and all personal care products will be provided on the West (left) side of the locker room. This will be provided for Plus members, but given the layout it will be done on the basis of honesty. Is there anything else planned Next summer we hope to replace all the old plumbing in the ceiling through the Plus locker room, to prevent the numerous leaks. We would then replace the ceiling tiles and grid. How can I keep updated? Regular updates will be posted on this bulletin board. Weekly updates will be provided by email to those who request it. To be added to the list please email [email protected]. Some members of the Plus have also agreed to act as Ambassadors for the duration of the work. Their names and photo’s will be posted shortly. How do I find out more information? Please feel free to ask Don, the Men’s Plus Supervisor or any of the staff working in this area. You can also contact Nick Wiggins, General Manager, on (403) 781‐1651 or email [email protected]
