(always a favorite day of mine!)….. The Counselor’s Corner West Bradford families...here are a few thoughts for March... Car chats If you carpool, your child’s conversations with the other kids can shed light on what’s happening at school or with activities. Later, use what you heard to start a conversation. (“You mentioned something about a new science club. Is that an activity you’d be interested in?”) Double-check homework Looking over completed assignments carefully will help your youngster turn in her best work. She should check for skipped questions and math errors like adding numbers instead of subtracting them. Suggest that she pay attention to mistakes she often makes. Then, she could write reminders (“Put my name on my paper!”) to post in her homework area. Which group am I in? As your child gets older, you may notice him placing more emphasis on how he fits in with peers. Explain that it’s natural for youngsters to form groups, but it’s nice to be friends with a wide variety of people. For example, he might have friends in class, friends from soccer, and neighborhood friends. As always, it is important to point out that all groups that your child is in should be welcoming to all students. Worth quoting “You can observe a lot just by watching. “Yogi Berra” Mrs. Stephens, School Counselor ([email protected] / x6922) PSSA testing is coming up in April for grades 3 through 5. Mahalo (thank you) from your Home and School Officers Stephanie, Jenni, Kerrie, Michelle, & Melanie News from the Nurses Dear Parent/Guardian, The Centers for Disease Control has determined that there is an outbreak of a new "super lice" which appears to be resistant to conventional elimination methods such as over the counter as well as some prescription topical lice treatments. These 'super lice' are present in 25 states. The good news is, at this time, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Delaware are not among the states dealing with these lice. Being optimistic is always good, but the reality is that, at some time, we may be "hosting" these super bugs. As always, there are steps you can take to help prevent a lice infestation for your child. It is helpful to keep long hair tied back, reminding your child to not share hairbrushes or hats and to keep 'heads away from heads.' Checking your child's hair/scalp on a regular basis is also recommended to catch an infestation early, and help prevent the spread in your family as well as your child's classmates. For more information, go to www.CDC.gov. If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to contact your healthcare provider or school nurse. Thank you. Monica Baldwin RN, CSN Thanks to YOU….
