SPRING
BREAK!
Spring greetings!..at least for this
first week of March.
Besides longer days
and the first of spring,
March is also Youth Art
Month! That means
that Mrs. Giunta has
put together some very
cool opportunities for
our students, families
and community. Victoria Wyeth, granddaughter of famed artist Andrew Wyeth, will
be meeting with our
students this week to
share history about her
grandfather and his
works. Next week, over
30 local artists will be
set up at WB for Artist
Day to showcase their
varied talents throughout the school for our
students to learn with,
about, and from! Thursday, 3/17 from 6-8 PM,
the WB art show is open
for families to see our
OWN artists’ work.
Since our curriculum
The PSSA’s are coming
(extra-long without
snow days!) also falls
in March this year, and
we hope it’s an enjoyable family time for all!
in April. This state-wide
assessment is taken by
grades 3, 4, 5. It assesses student growth and
district instruction in
the areas of ELA, math
and (grade 4) science.
is built around the
state standards which
is what PSSA assesses,
our students have been
exposed to, learning,
and applying them all
year long! We’ll be excited to show the state
what we know!

The Counselor’s Corner
West Bradford families...here are a few thoughts for March...
Car chats
If you carpool, your child’s conversations with the other kids can shed light on what’s happening at
school or with activities. Later, use what you heard to start a conversation. (“You mentioned something
about a new science club. Is that an activity you’d be interested in?”)
Double-check homework
Looking over completed assignments carefully will help your youngster turn in her best work. She
should check for skipped questions and math errors like adding numbers instead of subtracting them.
Suggest that she pay attention to mistakes she often makes. Then, she could write reminders (“Put my
name on my paper!”) to post in her homework area.
Which group am I in?
As your child gets older, you may notice him placing more emphasis on how he fits in with peers.
Explain that it’s natural for youngsters to form groups, but it’s nice to be friends with a wide variety of
people. For example, he might have friends in class, friends from soccer, and neighborhood friends. As
always, it is important to point out that all groups that your child is in should be welcoming to all
students.
Worth quoting
“You can observe a lot just by watching. “Yogi Berra”
Mrs. Stephens, School Counselor ([email protected] / x6922)
PSSA testing is coming up in April for grades 3 through 5.
Please make sure your child is prepared for these very important tests by:

Getting enough rest

Eating a healthy breakfast

Arriving to school on time and prepared
April 11-15, ELA (Grades 3, 4, 5)
April 18-22, Math (Grades 3, 4, 5)
April 25-29, Science (Grade 4)
Health and PE news for March…
FOURTH AND FIFTH GRADE CLASSES will begin human growth and development
classes the week of March 14. All students will have homework during this unit. The homework is designed to not only review human growth and development material taught in class,
but also to open up dialogue between parents and their children regarding this important
topic. Please let Miss. Ranieri or Mr. Evans know if you have any questions.
WB Home and School News:
Aloha everyone! After a beautiful week in Maui, your H&S President is refreshed and ready to get
spring started! I am sure I'm not the only one ready for warmer, sunnier days.
We want to express our thanks to Mr. Evans, Ms. Ranieri, and chairperson Colleen Hurley for organizing such a fantastic Jump Rope for Heart experience for our school. Thank you to all of you for making
it possible for WB to raise over $11,000 for the American Heart Association! The volunteer response
was fabulous! We hope everyone had a blast!
Looking ahead - Mark your calendars for Monday, March 14th. Chick-Fil-a has reinstated their Spirit
Nights. That night all of WB is invited to come out to Chick-Fil-a in the Ashbridge Shopping Center in
Downingtown to show your WB pride! This night is always a favorite for our kids! As always, WB gets a
percentage of the sales that evening.
Mrs. Giunta and her art committee are looking for volunteers to help hang art ASAP!. If you have an
hour or two to spare leading up to the Celebrate Art festivities, please reach out to Mrs. Giunta or Megan Lydon to ask how you can help. We want our hallways to be filled with our kids' artwork for Celebrate Art Day on March 16th!
Our Spring Fair committee is busy planning this year's LUAU themed event being held on April 29th!
They are looking for committee members to help plan/prepare decorations, games, food, etc. A brief
planning meeting will be held on March 3rd at 6:30 at the school. Please join chairperson's Larissa
Doust and Christina Moses to help make the Spring Fair something special for our children and families.
Home and School elections are quickly approaching. Information will be coming out explaining timeline
and procedures. All positions will be up for election. It's a rewarding experience being on the board and
helping to plan events and fundraisers to help our school and make memories for the children.
Look for information to come out in a few weeks about our Adopt-a-Book program. This is our annual
drive to help our librarian, Mr. Kennedy, improve our school library and offer our children a wider selection of reading material and a larger world to explore through reading.
Our next Home and School meeting is Monday, March 21st at 6:30 pm in the library. Please come out
and learn more about the Spring Fair, elections, and begin to help plan for next school year.
Mahalo (thank you) from your Home and School Officers Stephanie, Jenni, Kerrie, Michelle, & Melanie
News from the Nurses
Dear Parent/Guardian,
The Centers for Disease Control has determined that there is an outbreak of a new "super lice"
which appears to be resistant to conventional elimination methods such as over the counter as
well as some prescription topical lice treatments. These 'super lice' are present in 25 states. The
good news is, at this time, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Delaware are not among the states
dealing with these lice. Being optimistic is always good, but the reality is that, at some time, we may be
"hosting" these super bugs. As always, there are steps you can take to help prevent a lice infestation for your
child. It is helpful to keep long hair tied back, reminding your child to not share hairbrushes or hats and to keep
'heads away from heads.' Checking your child's hair/scalp on a regular basis is also recommended to catch an
infestation early, and help prevent the spread in your family as well as your child's classmates. For more information, go to www.CDC.gov.
If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to contact your healthcare provider or school nurse. Thank you.
Monica Baldwin RN, CSN
