Percival - Knight of the Round Table 1 Until Percival was seventeen years old, he knew nothing about knights! He lived with his mother in the quiet forests of Wales. Since he was a little boy, he loved the adventure. He spent a lot of time following his hobbies hunting, fishing and riding his horse. His mother loved him a lot. She was always afraid when he was alone in the dark forest because there were some dangerous animals there. But Percival was never afraid of anything. 2 One day, when he was riding through the forest, he met a group of King Arthur’s knights. Percival was so impressed by their golden armour that it became his biggest dream to be a knight. One of the knights invited him to Camelot, King Arthur’s castle! 3 When Percival came home, he told his mother about his wish. His mother started to cry. Then she told him about his two brothers and his father. They were knights, too and they were killed in a battle. Percival’s mother missed all of them a lot. So she didn’t want that Percival would die, too. Percival loved his mother very much, but his wish to become a knight was bigger than that. The next day he started his journey to Camelot. 4 On his way he met a knight in red armour. The Red Knight showed him a golden cup, which belonged to King Arthur. “Tell King Arthur that I have stolen his cup. If he wants it back, one of his knights must fight against me,” said the Red Knight. Percival was very angry when he heard this, so he hurried to Camelot to tell King Arthur. When he arrived in Camelot, Percival brought the message to King Arthur. 5 King Arthur offered Percival a deal. “Bring me back my cup and I will make you a knight of my Round Table”, said King Arthur. The helpful Percival wanted to become a knight more than anything in the world and so he hurried back to the Red Knight. But the Red Knight didn’t want to give back the cup without a fight. The Red Knight was taller and stronger, but the clever and brave boy threw his knife and killed him. The loyal Percival came back to Camelot and King Arthur kept his promise. So, King Arthur made Percival one of his Knights of the Round Table. Reading Comprehension Percival – Knight of the Round Table Exercise 3: Hot Seat!
