GOVERNMENT RELATIONS.
ASA works on behalf of members in washington and across the nation. ASAM works on your behalf in Lansing
and at the local level. ASAM helps to faciliate two way communications with state and local government
agencies and legislative bodies as well as representatives. ASAM repots on developments and changes in laws

BUSINESS PRACTICE INTERCHANGE.
Member-only ASAM events feature the very valuable structured opportunity to exchange information about
customer’s business practices, and the opportunity to learn about the business practices of companies similar
to yours. ASA provides a similar service at the national level.
VALUABLE MEETINGS.
ASAM arranges regular meetings that provide the opportunity for your company to learn the most current,
and the most important information and practices that will help your company to be more successful. ASA
holds national meetings and workshops that provide an even broader perspective and value at that level. In
addition to the planned program learning activities, the opportunities for networking and informal exchange
of information are significant.
MICHIGAN CONTRACTOR OF THE YEAR (MCOY) AWARDS.
The MCOY awards are one outlet for subcontractors to voice their appreciation for outstanding general
contractors. General Contractors are ranked based on what matters most--everything from ethics and safety to
quality and workmanship. The awards are widely recognized in the field, and a number of general contractors
have stated they’ve changed practices in order to be considered.
“As a newer member to the ASA I can say our
membership has so been worth it! At first glance as a
subcontractor you think being a member might help
in some networking and maybe a seminar or two.
That is true but there is so much more that being a
member gains you. I have been very surprised by the
topics in the ASA Communications that comes out
weekly with articles pertaining to our industry and
current hot topics we need to be aware of. Then the

abreast to the ever-changing situations we have to
deal with in the construction industry. The topper
for us has been the professionalism of ASA general
contractors we deal with who believe in what the ASA
standards are in dealing with us as subcontractors. To
witness them competing every year for the MCOY
award and actually live it out during the year tells me
they are people we want to do business with!”
