Ref: 17002 3 April 2017 Mark Vinall Tattico Limited P O Box 91562 Wellesley Street AUCKLAND 1142 Dear Mark, TRANSPORTATION ASSESSMENT – DAY/NIGHT TEST MATCH, EDEN PARK As requested, we have considered transportation requirements to hold a day/night cricket test match at Eden Park. The proposed match would occur over 5 days including on a Saturday and Sunday with a scheduled daily start of 2:00pm and finish time of around 9:30pm. We understand that under the Eden Park Precinct standards (I310) of the Auckland Unitary Plan, there are no restrictions on such an event taking place except on a Sunday night. Notwithstanding this control, we do not anticipate that the general transport effects from allowing this match to occur on a Sunday would be any different than it took place on a Saturday, where they are no restrictions. The following points are noted in this regard: ▪ The event would be held under the current operational traffic management plans approved by Auckland Transport to manage the traffic and pedestrians. ▪ The traffic management response around the Eden Park environs is designed to mitigate the effects of traffic and ensure pedestrian safety while minimising the impact traffic management has on the residential amenity. ▪ Traffic flows on the surrounding road network on a Sunday are typically lower than on a Saturday suggesting that the overall effects will be less as there is additional capacity in the network to accommodate vehicle activity associated with an event. For example, vehicle flows measured by Auckland Transport on Dominion Road show that daily flows on a Sunday are 12% less than those recorded on a Saturday. ▪ A review of the scheduled train services on the Western Line reveal that there is no difference in schedule between a Saturday and Sunday. Scheduled bus services are also similar with a regular frequency of services (every 15-20 minutes) occurring on Sandringham Road, providing ample opportunities for patrons to utilise public transport as part of their travel to and from the event. Auckland Office: P O Box 60-255, Titirangi, Auckland 0642 Level 1, 400 Titirangi Road, Titirangi Village Tel: (09) 817 2500 Fax: (09) 817 2504 www.trafficplanning.co.nz -2- Overall, it is considered that the traffic effects of the proposal to undertake a day / night cricket test on a Sunday can be accommodated on the road network without compromising its function, capacity or safety.
