Tuesday, June 10th – Wednesday, June 11th: End of year school trip to New Hampshire with Appalachian
Mountain Club. Students must return forms by Friday, 5/23 to attend.
Monday, June 16th – Wednesday, June 18th : Final Exams – 11:30am Dismissal
Thursday, June 19th : Last Day of School – 11:30 dismissal
WEEKLY FOCUS: ENTHUSIASM
With so many accomplishments to celebrate, and
so much to look forward to in the weeks ahead,
this week we explore how we show
ENTHUSIASM at UP Academy. Luckily, we
don’t have to wait around to feel enthusiastic.
Gordon Parks says, “Enthusiasm is the electricity
of life. How do you get it? You act enthusiastic
until you make it a habit.”

SCIENCE DEMONSTRATION
STUDENT VS STAFF BASKETBAL
Owls brought their skills to the court during
Wednesday’s Student vs. Staff Basketball game. The
names of seven lucky students from each homeroom
were drawn in a raffle and each group represented
their homerooms for a quarter of the game.

Our “Mad Scientists in Training” received a special
surprise from two female graduate MIT Scientists.
They joined us on Thursday to get our owls excited
about science by demonstrating how knowledge
they’ve learned all year with Mr. Lane can be applied
to real life. Jeuddy in Maine even got to hold dry ice
and see liquid nitrogen blow up a tennis ball!

ENFOQUE SEMANAL: ENTUSIASMO
Con tantos logros para celebrar, y mucho que esperamos, esta
semana exploramos cómo actuamos con entusiasmo en UP
Academy. Afortunadamente, no tenemos que esperar a sentir
entusiasmo para vivir con ella. Gordon Parks dice: "El entusiasmo es
la electricidad de la vida. ¿Cómo lo conseguiste? Actúas entusiasta
hasta que se haga un hábito.”
DENTRO DEL SALON: DEMOSTRACION de
MIT
PARTIDO DE BALONCESTO
ESPECIAL
El miércoles los nombres de los siete estudiantes
afortunados de cada salón fueron seleccionados por
una rifa y cada grupo represento su salón por un
cuarto de un partido especial de baloncesto entre
estudiantes y maestros.
Adrián Rodríguez intenta un bloque de pase Sr. James
durante el Estudiante vs Personal Partido de baloncesto
el miércoles.
Nuestros "Científicos Locos en Entrenamiento" recibieron una
sorpresa especial de dos científicos postgrado de MIT. Ellos se
unieron a nosotros el jueves para entusiasmar a nuestros estudiantes
con la ciencia. Demostraron cómo el conocimiento que han
aprendido durante todo el año con el señor Lane puede ser aplicado
a la vida real. ¡Jeuddy en Maine llegó incluso a sostener hielo seco y
ver nitrógeno líquido explotar una pelota de tenis!
