Peter Michael Casey Firstly, thanks for taking the time to read this. I am looking forward to being able to serve you and the club. I want this club to be great again. That is the only reason I want to be your representative on the Board. The catch-cry for the club over the past seasons has been stability. I don’t think that is getting us anywhere. It is a great approach if you want to survive. And we’ve been doing that well over the past years. Turning in good financial numbers, eradicating debt. Most of that survival success has come from supporters; you have stood up when you were asked to. What’s missing is the thrive part, generating the on-field success that all the operational support is about. The culture that drives success needs to be set by the Board. There is a partnership between the Board and the Club. That partnership requires that there is a common understanding between the Board and the Club of what needs to be done. The Board is not a separate entity – the Board is there to ensure that good governance happens. What is different about the club is that the business is football, not the other way round. I will bring in an Accountability Framework that recognises that the Board and the Club are ultimately accountable to the members. In order to thrive, we need to do more than survive. To thrive, I will raise the profile of the footy department to the same level as the operations. Bringing Neil Balme back has provided the perfect launch pad to drive accountability deep into the football department. Everyone at the club will be responsible for delivering on that football plan. Everyone will be accountable for delivering their part. Everyone will have the resources to do their job. There will be no excuses. Neil is back in Yellow and Black. Our players need to play in Yellow and Black. We need to hold firm to the club icons. Success will be driven from knowing how everyone has a role in delivering on-field success. Everyone will be accountable for achieving that. Members and supporters are the lifeblood of the club. I will treat you as an integral part of the club. So why me? I’m experienced. I am a trouble-shooter. I’ve worked in some of the most hostile environments – in Israel with the Palestinians – I’ve dealt with governments to change their views in locations like Namibia, Rwanda and Tanzania. I link strategies to deliverables, so the big plan has measureable steps along the way, developing change programs that attract investment to deliver in places like Romania and the Pacific Islands. Finally, it’s your vote. It is the best way to make your opinion heard.
