Please refer to HO letter No. DP(PERS.)Ministerial/2016/ 250/A-34012/16/2015A
dated 28.01.2016 and corrigendum dated 04.02.2016 inviting applications of willing and
eligible LDCs to appear in the Limited Departmental Competitive Examination for promotion
of LDCs to the grade of UDC in CBI to be held on 29 th April, 2016 (Friday) to fill up the 08
vacancies of UDC ( 07 unreserved category and 1 SC category) in CBI under Examination
Quota by 15 th February,2016 (copy enclosed).
2.In the above context, it is intimated that the last date of submission of applications has
been extended from 15 th February, 2016 to 23 rd March, 2016.
It is requested that the contents of this circular may be brought to the notice of all the

LDCs of your Branch, as well as to those who may be on leave, training, tour or on
deputation to other organizations etc.
The applications of the candidates who are eligible and intend to appear in the

aforesaid examination may please be sent to CBI, HO on or before 23rd March. 2016
positively in the proforma. No application will be entertained after the closinz date i.e. 234
March, 2016. Incomplete or unfilled application, if any, is liable to be cancelled.

Sub:Limited Departmental Competitive Examination for promotion of LDCs to the grade of UDC in CBI.
Sir.
A Limited Departmental Competitive Examination for promotion of LDCs to the grade of UDC in
CBI is proposed to be held on 29' April, 2015 (Friday) to fill up the 08 vacancies of UDC ( 07 unreserved
category and 1 SC category) in CBI under Examination Quota.
2.In accordance with the scheme of examination, permanent or regularly appointed temporary LDCs
in CBI who as on 1st January, 2016 satisfy the following conditions are eligible to appear in the
domination:(i) Length of service: The candidate should have rendered an approved and continuous service of not
less than five years in the grade of LDC in CBI as on 1st January, 2016.
Note . 1The limit of 5 yeats of approved and continuous service will also apply if the total
reckonable service of a candidate is partly as a LDC and partly as UDC (ad hoc) in CBI.
Note! 2 Lower Division Clerks who are on deputation to ex-cadre posts with the approval of the
competent authority will be eligible to be admitted to the examination, if otherwise eligible.
This, however, does not apply to a Lower Division Clerk who has been appointed to an excadre or to another service on "transfer and does riot have a lien in the Lower Division
Grade in the CBI.
(ii)
Age:He/She should not be more than50 years of age as on 1st January; 2016. The age limit
prescribed above will be relaxable up to a maximum of 05 years if a candidate belongs to Scheduled Caste
or Scheduled Tribe.
(iii)
Typewriting Test: Unless exempted from passing the monthly/ Quarterly Typewriting Test held by
the Department of Official Language under Hindi Teaching Scheme, Union Public Service Commission/
Secretariat Training School/ Institute . of Secretariat Training and Management (Examination Wing)/
Subordinate Service Commission/ Staff Selection Commission for the purpose of confirmation in the Lower
Division Grade, he/she should have passed this test on or before the date of notification of the examination
from one of these organizations..
There will be no restriction on the number of chances that could be availed of by the candidates for
(iv)
the examination, if they otherwise fulfill all other conditions,
The decision of the Deputy Director (Pers or Adrrin.), CBI will be final in regard to the eligibility or
(v)
otherwise of a candidate for admission to the examination.
No candidate will be admitted to the examination unless he/she holds a certificate of admission

from their respective SP/ DIG (In charge of the Branch)

(vii)
Candidates should note that this is a competitive examinations and not a qualifying examination.
3.A candidate, who after applying for admission to the examination or after appearing in it, resigns
from his appointment in Central Bureau of Investigation or otherwise quits the service, or whose services
are terminated by his Department or who is appointed to an ex-cadre post or to another service on
"transfer" and does not have a lien in the Lower Division Grade will not be eligible for appointment on the
results of this examination. This, however, does not apply to an LDC who has been appointed on
deputation to an ex-cadre post with the approval of the competent authority.
The examination shall be conducted according to the following plan:Part- I Written examination carrying a maximum of 300 marks in the subjects as shown in
the table below:

Paper-1
Evaluation of record of service carrying a maximum of 100 marks.
(NOTE: Evaluation of Service Records of those candidates who qualify in the
written examination will only be done.)
The syllabus for the examilation will be as follows:(a)General Awareness .- Questions will be aimed at testing the candidate's general
awareness of the environment around him and its application to the society. Questions will
also be designed to test knowledge of current events and of such matter of every day

observations and experience in the scientific aspect as may be expected of an educated
person. The test will also include questions relating to India and its neighboring countries
especially pertaining to History, Culture, Geography, Economic Scene, General polity and
scientific research.
(b) .Comprehension and Writing Ability of English Language Questions will be
designed to test the candidates' understanding and knowledge of English Language,
vocabulary, spellings. grammar, sentence structure, synonyms, antonyms, sentence
completion, phrases and idiomatic use of words etc. There will be a question on
comprehension of a passage also.
Paper-2 •
Noting and Drafting and Office Procedure . - The paper on Noting and Drafting and Office
Procedure will be. designed to test the candidates' knowledge of Office Procedure in the
Secretariat and Attached/Subordinate Offices and generally their ability to write and
understand notes and drafts.
Note 1 Candidates are allowed the option to answer the Paper 2 on Noting, Drafting & Office Procedure
either in English or Hindi.
Note 2 The option will be for a complete paper and not for different questions in the same paper.
Note 3 Candidates who are desirous of exercising the option to answer the aforesaid paper in Hindi
(Devanagri) or in English should indicate this clearly in column 8 of the application form; otherwise
it will be presumed that they would be answering the paper in English.
Note 4 The option once exercised shall be final and no request for alteration shall ordinarily be
entertained.
Note 5 Question paper in respect of Paper 1 and Paper 2 will be supplied both in Hindi and English.
Note 6 No credit for Paper 2 wilt be given for an answer written in a language other than the one opted by
the candidate.

Candidates must write the papers in their own hand. In no circumstances will they be allowed the
help of a scribe to write answers for them.
7.
The candidates are required to secure a minimum of 35% marks in each paper and an aggregate
of 40%. However, as per Govt. instructions conveyed vide DP & T OM No. 36012/23/96-Estt.(Res) Vol.11
dt. 3.10.2000, relaxation/concession in the matter of promotion of candidates belonging to SC/ST
categories by way of lowering qualifying marks that existed prior to 20.7.97 and which was dispensed with,
has been restored. ACRs of those candidates who are unable to secure the minimum laid down marks, will
not be evaluated. For assessment of records: total marks prescribed is 100 and one will have to secure
minimum of 50 marks, otherwise his name will not be included in the panel, regardless of his written
performance.

Marks will not be allotted for mere superficial knowledge.

Deduction up to 5 per cent of the maximum marks in the written subject will be made for illegible

Credit will be given for orderly, effective and exact expression, combined with economy of words in

all subjects of the examination.
