STAND BACK AND LOOK AGAIN!
A few years back, I was putting wallpaper on the
walls of a room in our house and was extremely
fussy about getting it to look completely seamless.
Once I had finished, it was very satisfying to
stand back and look at what I had achieved.
After a few days, I stopped appreciating my good
work and the wallpaper just became a pleasant
backdrop which I hardly noticed. On Wednesday
of this week, we were visited by the Principal and
14 teachers from one of the best schools in
Russia. They said ‘wow’ as soon as they saw
our school gates, and again when they saw the
sculptures, and continued the wows at the Sixty
Year clock, and the view from the library, and on it
went for about two hours. At the end of their visit,
the Principal said ‘I would love to be a student at
your school. I would love to be a teacher at your
school. In fact, I would like to work in any capacity
at your school because I feel inspired just to be
here’. Every now and again, we should stand back
to admire our work, so that we can gain the
inspiration to make it even better.

GLOBE THEATRE YEAR 7 TRIP
As part of their English curriculum, Year 7 students visited the
Globe Theatre this week. Each group of students participated in
a Lively Action workshop, working with actors to examine how
the language of Shakespeare comes alive. They then met the
Weapons Master of the Globe to learn how fights are
choreographed, and watched demonstrations of different types of
stage fighting. The students impressed the staff at the Globe with
their enthusiasm and questions.
“It was the best day out ever!” - Alex Michael, 7H
“I quite enjoyed learning new things about the Globe.”

A group of 21 Year 7 and 8 students went on the
‘WE Read’ trip at UCS School where they were
able to meet the authors from a shortlist they
had been sampling over the previous months.
Students were encouraged to write reviews of
the books, the best of which are available for all
to see on the WE Read website.
Students went to author presentations where they participated
in discussions and could purchase signed copies of the books.
A great many schools took part so it was an amazing
achievement to have a review published on the website. One
of our students, Lily Rachel 7A wrote excellent reviews for all
six books and all of them were published. She then went on to
win a prize for Best Review at the WE Read ceremony at the
end of the day. We were extremely proud of her and all EBS
students who took part in the conference.

YEAR 12 BUSINESS STUDIES STUDENTS WIN RETAIL BUSINESS CHALLENGE 2013!
On Thursday 20th June, seven Year 12 Business
Studies students competed in the annual retail

at giving students a different perception of the retail
environment. The day addressed the practical elements
of collecting and organising information, working in a
team and developing presentation skills.
Our students were set the task of coming up with an
innovative idea for the company Timberland. They were
fantastic and demonstrated high levels of creativity in
their presentation. There were a panel of judges from
industry including the Managing Director of Brent Cross

MERITS
This is your final opportunity to register your
merits as next week will be the final week to
do. So for this academic year, I will be
available all of next week during lunchtime,
please don’t forget! Certificates and badges
will be awarded by the end of term.
REMEMBER: don’t throw away your
homework diary as merits are carried over
from one year to the next, so, if you don’t
manage to see me next week, your merits
can still be registered in September. Thank
you and happy counting!
