Bagasse is a form of paper but instead of being made from tree pulp, it is made
from sugarcane, or specifically from the residue remaining after sugarcane stalks are
crushed.
Unlike standard paper made from tree pulp, which requires adhering surfaces with
a form of glue, the sugarcane packaging is made into a solid mold. Additionally,
this material has increased moisture resistance, which allows it to be used with no
coating; bypassing the traditional problems of the petroleum coating altogether.

The palm plates and bowls are made
from the sheaths of the leaves from the
fallen areca palm tree.
Their unique, natural, stylish look and feel make
them ideal for catering a high-end environmental
function, or for any occasion where you cannot use
reusable plates and bowls.
Beyond its environmental merits and their
attractiveness, these plates and bowls are durable
and hold up well for hot and moist foods.
They are also completely biodegradable so after use
they can go into compost.

Paper with Biodegradable Coating
Our cups and bowls are different from traditional paper cups made from tree pulp. Green
Shift Paper cups are made from sustainably harvested forests, with a minimum of 30% post
consumer recycled material used in their production.
The coating in traditional paper cups and bowls is as also a concern as it is made from a
non biodegradable, petroleum based plastic #4 (polyethylene), as opposed to a resin made
from vegetables, primarily corn.
These biodegradable paper products are designed for hot foods but they work well for
all temperatures.

Biodegradable packaging does not break down while being stored on a shelf. It is designed for sophisticated compost facilities that carefully
balance the ratio of carbon, nitrogen, air, moisture, and heat.
To accelerate the process some facilities have grinding and mulching equipment. It follows that the time in which it will take for materials to
fully break down can vary widely depending on the facility, the materials being composted, and the equipment being used. In general, most
of our biodegradable packaging will be turned into compost, in a commercial facility, within 3 months. If it is composted in a backyard
composter, it will require measured doses, and can easily take a couple of years to turn into compost.
