ATTITUDE ACTION ACHIEVEMENT Frimley School Newsletter Wednesday, 9 November 2016 PRINCIPALS CORNER Half way through the final school term of 2016 and the pace is building. There are a number of reminders and notices in this newsletter about events coming up. Don't forget that the Frimley School App keeps you posted of last minute changes and has the most up to date calendar. A special welcome to the following new students to Frimley in the last fortnight: Ella King, Dallas Filipo, Ezra Kingi, April Raikes and Michaela Payne. Diwali Day 2017 We celebrated this yesterday (Tues 8 Nov) in the school Hall with dance, stories, a little history and costumes/ decorations. It was great to see so many of our Indian community join us for the presentation. A special thank you to Prabhjot and Ramandeep for organising the celebration and Mary for your leadership. A range of photos will be on the school’s Facebook site later this week. Staffing changes for 2017 As in any big school our size, there are always a number of teacher changes at the end of the year. This year one of our Associate Principals, Mary Medcalf, has resigned to take up a job at Bledisloe School; Victoria Crisp (Reading Recovery Teacher) is retiring and Camille Douglas has won a job as a Resource Teacher of Learning and Behaviour. We will also be farewelling Kristian Day and Delwyn McKennie from our teaching team. We have appointed a number of teachers ready for 2017. These include - Lucie MacDonald, Anthony Tattersall, Mat Makris, Kath Winnie and Kate Keenan. These teachers bring a range of experiences and expertise to Frimley and we are very excited to have them on board. Student and Teacher placements 2017 There are still a few decisions to be made regarding our staffing for 2017. What I am able to tell you now are which Learning Community each teacher will be in and the likely year group composition of each Learning Community. Please note these are subject to change. Heretaunga Ararau This Learning Community will have new entrants in it and starts with two classrooms and will grow to 5 over the year. In this teaching team to commence the year will be: Tessa Arcus and Suzanne Wilkinson Lucie MacDonald Stacey Mabey (LC leader) Heretaunga Hakunui This Learning Community will have Year 1 and 2 students. The following teachers will be in this team: Kate Keenan Michelle Brown Lynda Allen (LC leader) Rebecca Wright Heretaunga Haaro o te kahu This Learning community will have Year 2 and 3 students in it. The following teachers will make up this team: Pauline Carswell (LC Leader and Associate Principal) and Stef Evans Kath Winnie Karlene O'Dowda Tania Holmes Heretaunga Raorao Haumako This learning community will have Year 3 & 4 students. The teachers are: Claire Bymolt (Acting LC leader) Anthony Tattersall Sally Roach Mat Makris Heretaunga Takoto Noa All Year 5 & 6 students will be in this learning community. There is no change to the teachers in this team from 2016. Selecting classes is a very complex and time-consuming process. This opportunity is available until Friday, 11 November. School Fete This Saturday from 12noon until 3pm is the school Fete. This is our wonderful PTA's major fundraising project for the year with all funds going to special projects at your school. Please get in behind the Fete, spread the word amongst your friends, colleagues and whanau and come along ready for the 12noon start. Optimist Yachting Next week our Year 5 & 6 students are down at Pandora learning how to sail optimist yachts, thank you to the parents who are assisting with this. Without your support these types of opportunities are impossible for us to offer your children. Athletics- Years 4-6 On Monday this week we were extremely lucky to get through our Years 4-6 athletics at the HB Sports Park, with the weather threatening for most of the morning. We are so lucky to have this fantastic facility on our doorstep and for our students to have the opportunity to complete on a 'world class athletics course'. Thanks to Darin and Paul for organising/setting up the day and for our teachers/learning assistants and parents who helped out on the day. Results can be found later in the newsletter.
