AGING ADVISORY COUNCIL MEETING October 24, 2012 Minutes Those Attending: Carol Napier, Misty Pugh, Mike Goble, Sharlene Osborne, Joann McKee, Norma Jarrell, Vickie Boyd, Leneda Fuller, Carolyn Tackett, Beulah Hall, Sharon Coleman, Susan Hensley, Marlene Howard, Lee Mueller, Angel Slone, Melissa Downey, Melissa Vance, Bertha Daniels, Jerry Fultz, Gloria Hall Robinett, Betty McCoy, Lois Curry, Sharon Anderson, Stacy Little, John Rosenberg, Alma Swiney, Curtis Swiney, Sandy Runyon, Leslie Gibson, Virginia Artrip, Karon Robinson, Liz Hamilton and Steve Jones Roll Call was completed by Carol Napier. Bertha Daniels led the group in prayer. John Rosenberg led the group in the Pledge of Allegiance. Minutes from the previous meeting were reviewed by the group. Leneda Fuller made the motion to accept the minutes as written, Sharon Coleman seconded the motion, motion carried. The agenda was reviewed no corrections or additions were made a motion to accept the agenda was made by John Rosenberg and seconded by Lee Mueller, motion carried. Old Business Program reports were given for the Ombudsman/Elder Maltreatment, Family Caregiver, SHIP, and Senior Centers. Copies of reports were provided to the council members. New Business A. Recognition of Legislators John Rosenberg posed question concerning the coal severance money. Both Liz Hamilton and Carol Napier explained the allocations. The allocations are the same as last year. Coal severance is down 12%. Fiscal courts must get permission to re-prioritize for projects to be moved up on the list. Carol Napier explained that she is working on getting the centers moved up on the list in Pike County. John Rosenberg suggested that the council members needed to contact local officials concerning this matter. Much discussion was made by the group. Steve Jones explained that letters and calls were made to all legislators inviting them to the council meeting however due to conflicts in schedules no legislators were able to attend the meeting. John Rosenberg asked about extra monies for meals. Liz Hamilton explained that $17,653 was divided between the 5 counties. This allowed each county senior citizens program to increase their home delivery clients by 2. Steve Jones gave information to the group concerning the Personal Care Attendant Program (PCAP) had a funding increase of $56,328. This will allow the program to pick up 4 clients. Program does have a long waiting list however clients are prioritized by their needs. John Rosenberg asked how the $10,000,000 was allocated. Sandy Runyon, Executive Director of the Big Sandy ADD stated that at this point it was not clear but these monies could possibly be used to assist where cuts had been made. Lee Muller made a motion to write a letter to the Secretary of CHFS on how monies were allocated. John Rosenberg seconded motion, motion carried. Information was given to the group per county on each center how many days per week they were providing home delivered meals and the ways that they were supplementing the monies needed to do that. Comments Sandy Runyon stated that the Big Sandy Open House would be December 20, 2012. The Legislative breakfast has not yet been set. Bertha Daniels made a motion to reschedule a meeting with the legislators then have council meeting at Jenny Wiley. Carol Napier seconded motion, motion carried. With no other business at hand, Leneda Fuller made a motion to adjourn.
