Since 2010, when an enthusiastic group of Viridian voluntourists set forth on our first international sustainability
journey, our customers have helped bring light and hope to remote regions around the globe. Light the World
will allow us to do that on a much broader scale on behalf of both our energy customers and Travel Light
members. Together we can bring even more solar power to off-grid and low-income communities.
Why do we do it? For the same reason we undertake every sustainability initiative: Because we can, and
because we believe we must.
ELECTRICITY CHANGES EVERYTHING.
Worldwide, 1.4 billion people live without access to power.1 And that means a lot more than not having light—
although we all know what a big difference light makes. Power means refrigeration for precious food and
perishable medicines. It’s being able to charge the phone that’s your lifeline to the world. It’s being able to keep
up with news on the radio or TV, and maybe even use the Internet. It’s not having to spend hours every day on
the tasks of survival, and being able to focus on a better future.
Children who grow up with access to electricity are healthier, better educated and have more satisfying
livelihoods as adults than children who grow up without. And it’s within our reach to make that possible.
ONE MILLION DAYS OF POWER FOR
PEOPLE WHO’VE GONE WITHOUT.
We’re committed: Energy poverty is too big a problem to be solved by thinking small. The more energy
customers and Travel Light members we enroll, the sooner we’ll reach our million-day goal. And then we can
set an even bigger one.
The truth is, solar energy offers so many practical and affordable possibilities for lighting homes and providing
urgently-needed power. We’ll find the best way to provide power to communities in need — whether that’s
community solar, residential solar, solar lanterns, energy bill assistance or other electrification options. The total
impact of this program will be reported on in our annual Sustainability Report.
ONE MONTH OF VIRIDIAN = ONE DAY OF POWER
For every month that you’re a Viridian customer or Travel Light member, Viridian will
automatically donate one day of power on your behalf. Simple, right? Effective, too.

LET’S DO THE MATH.
Of course, we don’t literally give families just one day of power: Our one month = one day calculation reflects the
amortization on a purchased, installed and producing system. The way we arrive at that particular equation is by
taking the cost of a typical solar install, and assuming 20 years of life on the panels.
