pingry.org profile History The Pingry School, a coeducational, independent college preparatory school founded by Dr. John F. Pingry in 1861, consists of the Short Hills Campus (Lower School, K-5, 288 students) and Basking Ridge Campus (Middle School, 6-8, 270 students and Upper School, 9-12, 571 students). School Community Pingry’s Honor Code was written by the students in 1926 and adopted by the faculty in 1949. To this day, the Honor Code provides a foundation on which our program is built. Pingry stresses high ethical standards and an expectation that each individual within the community will work for the greater good. This helps to create a reflective institution whose members strive for excellence in every endeavor. Pingry’s deliberate and thorough admission process leads to a multi-talented student body drawn from 100 municipalities in New Jersey and eastern Pennsylvania. The School’s challenging, comprehensive and well-rounded liberal arts curriculum is supported by robust visual and performing arts and competitive athletics programs, a combination that produces engaged, hard-working graduates who value diverse perspectives. The average tenure of Pingry’s 170 full-time faculty is 12 years; of these full-time faculty, 125 hold advanced degrees, including 24 doctorates. Academics Pingry is recognized for its outstanding academic program. The school offers courses at the college-prep and honors/Advanced Placement levels. The standard academic load is 5 courses and the year is divided into 2 semesters. Enrollment in Advanced Placement, Advanced Topics and Honors courses is by faculty invitation only. There is no limit to the number of Advanced Placement, Advanced Topics or Honors courses a student may take. 18 Advanced Placement courses, 6 Advanced Topics courses and 19 Honors courses are offered. Any student may sit for an AP exam. Students enrolled in an AP designated course must sit for the corresponding AP exam.
