It’s that time of the year when people are writing New Year resolutions! Focus on resolutions that are healthy for the entire family! When individuals focus on one goal at a time, they can develop healthy habits that are more likely to become routine. This way you can continue new habits while you create and improve other lifestyle changes. Also, people have more success when they are held accountable by others. Here are some suggestions for monthly resolutions to get your family started: January - Changes for Success • This month, decide on a family goal. Maybe not watching tv while eating at the kitchen table or sitting down to eat a meal. It’s up to you. Our family goal this month … February - Say Yes to Veggies • Give veggies some love this month! Choose fresh veggies for snacks, add extra veggies into winter stews or add spinach into lasagna. March - Start Right with Breakfast • Find time for a healthy breakfast that includes whole grains, lean protein or fruit in March, in honor of National School Breakfast Week, March 6-10! April - Hydrate Daily • Hydration is an important part of overall health. Aim for the recommended 64 ounces of fluid a day. Water is the hydration beverage of choice, but all fluids count! May - Go Lean with Protein • Protein builds and maintains muscles, is responsible for healthy blood cells and strengthening the immune system. Focus on adding lean protein choices (animal or plant based) to family meals. June- Snack Right with Fruits • Snack on healthy fruits this month. Fruits are packed with vitamins, minerals and fiber!
