FROM THE MORSE’S MOUTH
LAETARE SUNDAY In the Latin liturgy, the entrance antiphon of the Mass for the 4th Sunday of Lent began
with the word “laetare” meaning “rejoice!” One of the reasons to rejoice is because this is the halfway mark
of Lent. But it’s also a reminder that we still have time to draw closer to God and to others through little
sacrifices we make during this holy season. So, if the first half hasn’t been as we had hoped, we still have the
opportunity to make good on our resolution(s). It’s a reminder that our God is always offering us a second
chance. It’s never too late to begin.
CONFIRMATION This coming Wednesday evening, 60 of our young people will receive the sacrament of
Confirmation, and with this sacrament complete their sacraments of initiation. Please keep all of them in your
prayers that the commitment they make at this time will be one they will live for the rest of their lives.
Fr. Dick Morse, OSFS
Padre Ricardo Morse, OSFS

The tournament is for the occasional golfer, as well
as, the more experienced golfer, but if you are neither, please come for a night of dinner and fun. The
cost is $150 per golfer, the same as the last 8

CHILDREN OF THE LIGHT
The future king, David, in today’s first reading, is
an example of a type of character present throughout the Hebrew scriptures. He is the child born out of
place (not the eldest or most favored) who ends up
receiving the promise of the covenant. The spirit of
God’s anointing rushes upon him. In this way, he is
similar to the man born blind from today’s Gospel.
David’s family and the blind man’s community did
not expect the miraculous grace of God’s love to
work through them. Perhaps they, too, were
“blinded” by the expectations and assumptions of
those around them. Yet, after being touched by
God, they both came to “see” the presence of God’s
will for them. Both became messengers of God’s will.
That same Spirit of God’s anointing rushed upon us
at our baptism; we were given a candle as a sign of
our membership in the Body of Christ, the Light from
Light. Our vocation, then, is to fulfill that enlightenment, that anointing, as Ephesians tells us, by living
as “children of the light.”
