The AVID Tutorial: Students as Teachers

success of the AVID elective class, where
tutorials facilitate student access to rigorous
curriculum.
The goal of AVID is to see
students continue their education into postsecondary (colleges, technical institutes or
universities).
“AVID is the definition of fun learning.” - Cailin

Advancement Via
Individual Determination
AVID students receive training on how to
strategically ask the right questions and how
to help their peers as AVID tutors by using
sound questioning techniques.
This in turn
helps them.
AVID students also serve as role models.
Oftentimes, they return to the program as
special
guest
speakers,
teaching
younger
AVID students about life at post-secondary.
The AVID Parent
AVID parents encourage their students to
achieve academically, participate in their
students’ learning and attend AVID parent
and site team meetings. They also maintain
regular contact with the AVID coordinator.
