BUDGET CONTINUES STRONG COMMITMENT TO FIRST NATIONS AND MÉTIS PEOPLE
The 2015-16 Provincial Budget maintains the Saskatchewan government’s strong commitment to programs
and partnership initiatives that help create opportunities for First Nations and Métis people.
The Budget provides $210.5 million in program funding targeted primarily for First Nations and Métis
organizations and individuals. This funding is in addition to expenditures on programs that can be accessed
by the general population – programs that also benefit First Nations and Métis people.
“A strong Saskatchewan economy needs the engagement of First Nations and Métis people if it is to grow
even more,” Government Relations Minister Jim Reiter said. “I am pleased that in a more challenging budget
year, we have been able to stay on track by investing in education and employment opportunities for First
Nations and Métis people.”
Budget highlights include:



$5.1 million in ongoing funding for initiatives that respond to the Joint Task Force on Improving
Education and Employment Outcomes for First Nations and Métis People (Ministry of Education);
$30.8 million (an increase of $1.0 million) in funding targeted at Adult Basic Education and Provincial
Training Allowance programs (Ministry of the Economy); and
$74 million in gaming agreement transfers to First Nations and Métis organizations (Ministry of
Government Relations).
