It is pleasing to see that almost everyone was able to comply with the entry requirements. It was too difficult to
organise a stand-by team from one country, particularly as it was a 6 person team. In fact they are from several
different areas, which is why their team name is ‘A House Divided’
Apart from the House Team the only exception granted was that one of the teams which included several Junior
and Intermediate players was allowed to have one non-compliant player in their team.
There is one United Nations styled team made up of players for whom it would be difficult to organise a full
team from their country. That is the North Constellation team which represents the Northern Hemisphere with
players from Canada, Denmark, Japan and Scotland.
FORMAT
The format is 6 matches of 12 boards.
The first two rounds will be pre-set by the Director with the aim of giving everyone an approximately equal
draw. Essentially you should either play two middling ranked teams or one of the top seeds, plus one team
seeded nearer the bottom of the field.
Rounds 3, 4, 5 and 6 will be a Swiss Draw.
For all matches captains will toss a coin with the winner of the toss having seating rights.
With the new continuous scale it is unlikely that there will be a tie at the end of the competition, but if there is a
tie then it will not be broken.
PRIZES
In keeping with the United Nations Theme there will be 3 Prizes for the best 3 overall scores. That will be the
United Nations Security Council.
While any team can be elected to the Security Council, there are prizes for teams in several sub-organisations for
teams not expected to challenge for those positions. Only teams in those categories can win those prizes. These
teams have been assessed by a seeding committee looking at current form not just the number of A Points.
If you think your team has been seeded too highly because you are in a tough sub-category or not in a subcategory at all then please treat it as a compliment about your play from the Seeding Committee.
If you think the Seeding Committee has overlooked your obvious talents and placed you in too easy a category
then please treat it as an opportunity to win that prize.
