words on top of the cabinet in the front narthex. Please see a host if you need any
of these.
A Friendly Reminder: Please turn your cell phones off. Thanks for your
cooperation.
Called Congregational Meeting: There will be a Called Congregational Meeting on
Sunday, October 2nd, immediately after morning worship for the purpose of electing
members for the Pastor Search Committee.
Just a reminder that you now need to make your checks payable to LoveJoy
United Presbyterian Church.
If you would like to serve as a liturgist or acolyte, please sign the paper on the table
in the narthex. A training session will be provided. Please remember that with the
merger those who are seeking to fill these positions in the services are not always
familiar with who to call; therefore, it is most helpful for you to sign the sheet.
Food pantry items needed for September 25: Canned ravioli/pastas. October 2:
Bar soap/toilet paper; 9: Canned soups; 16: Canned meats; 23: Canned
vegetables; 30: Ravioli/pastas & sauces. The Food Pantry is now open only on the

to Operation Blessing.

NEW THEOLOGICAL STUDY
By Chrissy Bristow
What better way to celebrate our new church than with good reads, good friends,
good eats, and good drinks???
Join us on Wednesday evenings, starting September 21st, from 6:00-7:00 at High
Flyers Grille (located at the Bethalto airport) for a theological discussion on the Bob
Goss's book Love Does. What does that mean - 'love does"? Well, it's not the kind
of love that stops at thoughts and feelings. This love takes action. When Love
Does, life gets interesting. Each day turns into a hilarious, whimsical, meaningful
chance that makes faith simple and real.
If you are interested in having a copy of the book, please see Chrissy Bristow
([email protected]) for a copy. Childcare will be provided at the church
starting at 5:45. If you plan on eating, arriving a few minutes early to order is a good
idea. Hope to see you there!
United Congregation of Metro East Alton Area Cluster Meeting: “IF ONE OF
US IS CHAINED” a presentation on our country’s broken criminal justice system,’’
will be presented by Jan Hines here at the church tomorrow night, 9/26 at 7 p.m.
You are invited to come and learn about the work of UCM, a powerful organization
committed to combating the root causes of systemic injustice in our region by uniting
people of faith in transforming our communities.
YOUTH HAPPENINGS
Children’s Worship Bags are available for use during the worship service.
Please help yourself. If you can’t find them, a host will be happy to assist you.
Youth Quest is back up and running again. This is such an important part of the
life of our church as the young people participating in the many different
programs and activities provided by CE are preparing our youth to be the leaders
of tomorrow.
One of the features of Youth Quest is the meal that is served to the youth in
attendance and those who are supervising the program. Volunteers are needed
to provide meals. The meals can be something simple that you prepare and
serve at the church, something that you prepare ahead of time that only needs to
be heated, or you might elect to buy pizzas for one of the Sunday evenings. Just
to give you an example, pizza burgers were served this past Sunday and it
seems that it was like Lay’s potato chips, nobody could eat just one. You might
also purchase chips and/or soda to be used by the youth.
Volunteers also take care of cleaning up after the meal. Draft a couple of
friends and sign up to feed this group on one or more of these upcoming Sunday
evenings. The rewards are great when you think that you are influencing the
lives of our youth. Get involved and let them know you care!
If you are unable to prepare and serve a meal, cash donations toward this
program are also appreciated. Indicate your intentions on your memo line on
your check.
