Brief description
sitronic’s air humidity and dewpoint sensor ensures
clear screens at all times. Hence, it enhances safety
and comfort and serves to improve the interior air
conditions of the vehicle. Fog on the screen is prevented
by the sensor through determination of the dewpoint
and the temperature of the screen. This information
enables timely countermeasures by the air conditioning
system to prevent fogging.
Further, the power consumption of the HVAC is reduced
to an efficient minimum, since unnecessary cooling and
re-heating is avoided.

Switch on only when really needed
Almost all vehicles sold today are equipped with an
automatic air conditioning system which influences the
power consumption. According to an estimate by the
German Energy Agency in July 2008, the consumption of
a mid-range car can be optimized by almost 1.3 litres of
petrol per 100 km by the efficient usage of an automatic
air conditioning system alone.
Here sitronic makes a valuable contribution through
the application of a surface temperature detector.
The system switches on only when really needed to
prevent unnecessary load of the engine. This procedure
significantly increases the efficiency of the automatic air
conditioning system.
In this way, it is also possible to provide healthier and
more uniform air conditions for passengers in the interior
of the vehicle, since unnecessary cooling and re-heating
is avoided.
The sensor is installed in the interior of the vehicle with
a direct surface contact to the windscreen. In passenger
cars the preferred installation area is below the rear-view
mirror where there is sufficient air circulation. Here the
dewpoint of the ambience is determined by the humidity
and temperature of the air. If the temperature of the
windscreen falls below the dewpoint, i.e. the temperature below which the windscreen starts to mist up, the
automatic air conditioning system can control appropriate
compensation measures.
Fogging of the windscreen is avoided at all times and a
clear view is guaranteed, thus improving safety for all
passengers. The same applies for large variations in
temperature, which can also result in fogging and
reduced visibility.
The measured values are transmitted via a LIN interface to
the climate control unit.
