Cougar News
The first day of spring is Sunday, March
20th. Although we have had a very mild
winter, it will be wonderful to see the
flowers bloom and the trees blossom in the
near future.
Contrasted to the outdoor plant life, I am
pleased to report that our students have
been growing all winter long. Students
and teachers are working very hard and I
am very excited to see what they will be
able to accomplish by the end of this
school year.
In addition to working very hard, our
students have been having a lot of fun. For
example, one of our classrooms was just
recognized on the “How Cool is Your
School” program of WETM 18 News for
their Fun Fitness Friday activity. On
Fridays, our fifth grade students receive a
short fitness work-out and a brief
motivational lesson from staff members of
Journey Fitness. This is but one example
of the many enrichment activities which
our teachers provide our deserving
students.
I would like to extend a sincere thank you
to all of our parents and community
CUS Talent Show
partners for helping to make our school
such a wonderful learning environment.
From Mrs. Jamison – Teaching Assistant
and coordinator of the CUS Talent Show.

From Our Social Worker
From Mrs. Cohen – CUS School Social
Worker.
Winter has finally arrived…and is
certainly making her presence known!
With the colder temperatures, it’s
important to make sure your child is
coming to school prepared for outdoor
recess, with hats, coats, gloves, snow
pants and boots. The Corning-Painted
Post PTA Council continues to offer a
Coat Bank for the families in our district.
Gently used coats, snow pants, hats and
gloves are collected, cleaned by area dry
cleaners, and stored at the Board of
Education, for the purpose of providing
winter wear to our students and parents
who are in need of such items. If you
would like some assistance in finding
winter wear for your family, please
contact Andrea Cohen, School Social
Worker. Mrs. Cohen will do what she
can to find what you are looking for.

School Mission Statement
The character trait for March is Courage.
A definition for courage is the mental or
moral strength to venture, persevere, and
withstand danger, fear, or difficulty.
Within our school setting, we encourage
students to demonstrate courage by
persevering when the work is
challenging. We also invite students to
demonstrate moral courage by modeling
kindness, compassion, and appropriate
behavior even when others are not.

environment for learning and social
