SAT Results—Class of 2015
Klein Independent School District
The SAT is a national college admissions examination that measures knowledge in critical reading, mathematics, and writing.
Scores range from 200 to 800 on each of the three subtests. Most students take the SAT exam during their junior or senior year in
high school. The College Board provides school districts with annual reports of student performance based on the previous
graduating class. These data inform the school district of historical trends of student performance on the SAT, demographic
information on SAT participants, and serve as an important resource for post-secondary readiness.
SAT Participation:
Overall, the Class of 2015 SAT test participation increased by 99 students compared to the Class of 2014. Since 2006, the number of
SAT participants has increased by 15% (259). While the number of SAT participants has increased in Klein ISD, the percentage of
the graduating class participating in SAT testing has declined by 11% since 2006. Although the number and percentage of SAT
participants at the campus level fluctuate from year to year, it is important to note that boundary changes occur at the high
schools over time.

Percent of College Bound Seniors Meeting the College and Career Readiness SAT Benchmark:
The College and Career Readiness SAT Benchmark can be used to measure the college and career readiness of groups of
students. The combined score of 1550 on the Critical Reading, Mathematics, and Writing sections indicates a 65% likelihood of
achieving a B– average or higher during the first year of college. The College and Career Readiness SAT Benchmark allows
secondary school educators, administrators, and policymakers to gauge the level of college readiness among groups of students,
inform instructional and curricular enhancements, strengthen academic programs, and share best practices. It is not intended or
designed to assess college and career readiness at the individual student level.
Nationwide, 42% of SAT test takers met the College and Career Readiness SAT Benchmark. In Texas, 32% of test takers met the
College and Career Readiness SAT Benchmark, with 13% of African American and 18% of Hispanic SAT test takers meeting the
College and Career Readiness SAT Benchmark. For Klein ISD, 41% of SAT test takers in the Class of 2015 met the College and
Career Readiness SAT Benchmark, a 2% decline from the Class of 2014. Both African American and Hispanic students, including
Mexican American and Puerto Rican students, in Klein ISD outperformed their peers at the state and national levels.
