Notes from the Board
Business Support Manager
We are pleased to announce the appointment of a
Business Support Manager. Mr Dave Martin will
join QMOWSAI on Monday 3rd April.
Dave is truly an exceptional find in this industry. He
brings with him an impressive and well-rounded 16year record in the not-for-profit sector, where he
was CFO for 13 years followed by 3 years in the
role of CEO for Westhaven Association. Dave was
instrumental in turning the organisation into a
sector leading performer.
In his new position, Dave is keen to engage with
member services to ensure that we have a clear
understanding of all issues and challenges. We
are confident he will provide positive support and
advice to member services who request his
assistance.
A real people person, he looks forward to getting to
know all of our staff, member services and key
stakeholders.
General Meeting
At the General Meeting on 14th March members of
the QMOWSAI Board and Service reps enjoyed
the hospitality of Nudgee Meals on Wheels at their
home, St Oswald's Church Hall Banyo. Thank you
very much President Robyn and your team for all
your hard work.
Attendees were advised that QMOWSAI's
Queensland Community Care Service Agreement
has been extended to 30/06/2019. It is expected
that Services would receive similar consideration.
Some Service reps confirmed that such advice had
been received.
Attendees were advised of recent approaches to
Federal Minister of Health Ken Wyatt regarding
Meals on Wheels Issues. The first came from an
initiative by Robyn and Jill of Nerang MOW and
resulted in a 50 minute meeting with Minister
Wyatt. The second was AMOWA's launch of the
National Meals Guidelines at Parliament House on
15th February. This took place in the presence of a
number of Parliamentary Friends of Meals on
Wheels. Minister Wyatt spoke enthusiastically of
the work done by Meals on Wheels and it's place

in Australian Society, and said he would look into the
issues raised.
Members were advised that the QMOWSAI website is
undergoing a complete revamp and would be
relaunched in early April.
Two Grant Agreement Managers from Queensland
Office, Department of Health attended the meeting,
addressed prepared questions and answered
questions from the floor. Unfortunately the impression
gained was that the system is very much a work in
progress.
Some members asked how QMOWSAI's move to
change to a Company Limited by Guarantee would
impact on member services. They were advised that
as Incorporated Associations QMOWSAI's new status
would not affect them and this would be clarified in
the new Constitution.
Constitution Changes
Due to time restrictions, the Board has been unable to
get beyond the draft stage of the constitutional
changes required for the change to a Company
Limited by Guarantee.
The Board have organised to spend the 19th April
focusing on the draft constituiton and intends to
allocate time in the May/June Board meetings so that
an appropriate draft constitution can be presented to
Member Services, giving at least two months for
consideration by Member Services.
