Please join me Wednesday, February 5, 2014 at 6:00PM in
the Library for “Coffee with the Principal”. This is a
meeting for parents to come and listen to a brief presentation
followed by a venue for parents to ask questions, discuss new
ideas, and voice any concerns.
Thank you to Mr. Boe, Mrs. James, and all the volunteers for
the hard work you put into the Book Fair. It was a huge success!
Sweetie Bags for sale in the office. The cost is $2 and will be
delivered to your child on Thursday, February 13th.
Basket campaign has started for the auction. Please bring
unwrapped filled baskets to prayer garden on Fridays to be
collected by auction volunteers.

Thank you for a helping to make Catholic Schools’
Week awesome and memorable! It was a blast! This
week we’re back to business. The new Sight Words are
in, it, was, that, and, and. Also, flashcards for the
numbers #11-22 are in the Sight Word bag. Students
will be tested on all Sight Words on Friday and the #’s
11-22. It’s very important the students master the
numbers as each week we will be adding more numbers. On Friday we sent home “Six Flags Read to Succeed Program.” Our school is participating in this program as it encourages students to read Grades K-6th.
This is a free program sponsored by Six Flags. This is
an optional program for your child. Each Kinder student is held accountable for their own reading log. Students who complete six hours of reading and complete
the log by February 25th 2014 will earn a free admission into Six Flags for the 2014 season!!! This ticket
will be awarded by me. Parents reading to their child
counts as well. I will give ten minutes per school day to
each student (in attendance) and sign off for it! This
will count for our in class reading/ sight words practice.
Totaling 150 minutes done at school! So 150 minutes
need to be completed at home to earn the free pass!
Thank you for the wonderful gifts for Teacher Appreciation Day! A special thank you to the parent club for the
delicious teacher luncheon. This Wednesday February 5th,
will be our in house field trip. The fire department will
visit K and 1st grade at 10:00am for a special presentation.
Don’t forget we have a minimum day this Friday February
7th, 2014. This is also first Friday Mass. Please wear full
uniform.

Thank you to all the visitors during Catholic Schools Week.
It was wonderful getting to meet so many grandparents! I
know the students enjoyed having them there and sharing
their schoolwork with them. This week we will be preparing
the school wide Mass on Friday the 7th. There will be a few
selected from our class to do the readings and bring up the
gifts. We hope that you will all be able to attend the Mass at
8:30. On Thursday there will be Little Dribbler pictures after school. Don’t forget that Friday is a minimum day and
that there is a parent formation class on Sunday the 9th at
2:00. If your child has not turned in his or her January reading log, please be sure to get that in so credit is received.

This week in language arts we will read “Hottest
Coldest Highest Deepest.” Students will take their
weekly language arts and spelling tests on Friday.
There are math assessments on Wednesday and
Thursday this week. Wednesday will take the dividing
by 2, by 5, and by 7 assessment. Thursday students
have an assessment on all subtraction facts as well as
their written assessment. Students will have their
chapter 17 religion test on Thursday. In science, we
will continue our Physics unit. Social Studies week 12

Happy February! ACT Explore results were sent home on Friday. These results contain useful information, so if you did not receive the results please ask your child. This month we are collecting mayo for the
parish food closet. THANK YOU, to all families who graciously donated
pjs for the Pajama Project. Your student should be coming home with
information regarding our class auction project. Please help in any way
you can to make our project more amazing. Now is the time for students to check Edline to make sure all their grades are acceptable and
correct. Please encourage your child to see their teacher if there are
questions. The end of the grading period is February 21st.
Social studies 6: We finish Ch. 6 The Ancient Americas and have a test
on Wednesday.
Science 6: We finish Ch. 6 Volcanoes and have a test on Friday. The
Volcano model is due Feb.11. The requirements for the model are: the
dimensions should not exceed 20”x20”x20”. The volcano will need to
erupt using a baking soda and vinegar mixture. It should be decorated
to look real. It should not be too heavy. Make sure that it can be easily
moved by no more than 2 students.
Social studies 7: We begin Ch. 7 The Renaissance.
Science 7: We finish Ch. 5 Genetics; we complete our “reebop” activity
and have a test on Friday.
Social studies 8: We finish Ch.9 The South and have a test on Friday.
Science 8: We finish up Ch. 7 Acids, Bases, and Solutions and have a
test on Wednesday.

Thank you to those who volunteered their time on Saturday at our e
-waste collection. We will have official numbers later this week.
From now until Feb 16th you can donate your clothing to RE Use It.
See the flyers that have been previously sent. Our 2 nd Trimester
ends February 21st. Junior High teachers will announce when they
plan to cut off new assignments. Thank you to those who have sent
in your $10 for the Auction donation. I will continue to collect it. The
students on flag duty this week are Jonathan S. & Gabriel D. and
our Safety Patrol student is Katie J. Thanks for volunteering!
RELIGION: Keep up-to-date on EdLine.
Our prayer for the month of February is the Guardian Angel Prayer.
6th Grade will finish Chapter 7: Commandment and Fulfillment. We
will make our own commandment posters. The test is scheduled for
Wednesday. After the test, we will watch a movie about the Ten
Commandments.
7th Grade will finish Chapter 14: Baptism. We will compare the
Gospel accounts of Jesus’ Baptism. The test is scheduled for next
Thursday. Extra Credit is due by test day. I will assign an essay
reflecting on the topic we discussed last week on Respect for Life.
8th Grade will finish watching their videos and begin Chapter 13. I
will assign an essay reflecting on the topic we discussed last week
on Respect for Life.

6th Grade:
We had a test this week. We will begin complex fractions
Common Core NS6.1 & NS6.2. We will also continue with exploring
percents of a whole number. This will continue with the concept of tax.
Depending on how we progress we may have a test this week.
7th Grade:
Seventh grade will be back in the Pre-Algebra book this
week. They will be working on their test. When we complete the test,
we will begin volume of pyramids and cones. This covers Common
Core NS7.G 1 & 3
8th Grade:
We are still working on Quadratic equations. This week we
will explore completing the square and applying the Quadratic formula.
The last step in this process is when do we apply which approach to
solve a quadratic. There will be a test on this next week.
MATH: Keep up-to-date on EdLine.
6th Grade I plan to cover Lessons 46-49. They have a Power Up
Test (study Power Up G) and an Open Note Quiz (Lessons 36-45)
this Tuesday.
7th Grade I plan to cover Lessons 49-52.
8th Grade I plan to cover Lessons 41-45. They will have an open
note quiz next Wednesday on Lessons 36-45.
Math Lab will be on Monday & Wednesday this week from 3:004:00 in my classroom.

Kindergarten & 1st grade will begin a new unit on La familiaThe family. We will learn the words for our various family
members.
2 & 3rd grade will be quizzed on the inside and outside of the
house. We will begin a new unit on furniture in our house.
4 & 5th grade have a test on Thursday on their food word list.
A new copy is coming home today. I mentioned to the kids
that the test will be multiple choice and matching with a word
bank. Do your best. I know it’s a lot of words but we’ve had
several days of in class review.
6th grade will work on the verb gustar + infinitives. They will
have a test on Unit 1 Lesson 1 vocabulary.
7 & 8th grade will begin Unit 2 Lesson 2 En la escuela. Vocabulary will be presented along with classroom objects, places in
school and adjectives.
