easy access walks Welton walk This short circular walk follows a pleasant path up a dry valley and through woodland before emerging on the edge of the Wolds. The route then descends gradually to return to Welton. Yorkshire Wolds Way NATIONAL TRAIL RADAR key required The walk has a maximum slope of 1 in 10 for about 200 metres. The walk is likely to be suitable for people with impaired mobility or with a pushchair, wheelchair or mobility scooter. A RADAR key is needed to open the kissing gates for wheelchair and mobility scooter access. The walk has no steps or stiles. Conditions will vary depending on the weather. Distance Route Points of interest 3 miles (5km). Walk up Cowgate past the church then continue up Dale Road. The route follows the valley floor before joining the Yorkshire Wolds Way and returning along a higher, parallel route. Welton, a picturesque village now bypassed by the A63 has an attractive green and church. The Green Dragon Inn is famous for the fact that it was here that the infamous Dick Turpin was arrested in 1739. At the time he was known only as John Palmer. His identity was revealed later when his former schoolmaster identified his handwriting as being Dick Turpins! Path details The first half of the walk follows a very gradual uphill slope mainly on good firm surfaces. The last few hundred yards before the half way point are a little rough and may be slippery after wet weather. The three gates along the route are all wheelchair accessible with a RADAR key. Nearest facilities The Green Dragon offers light refreshments lunches and evening meals. The nearest accessible public toilets are available at the Noth Bank Viewing area for the Humber Bridge. Start The walk start on the Green opposite The Green Dragon Inn (OS Explorer Map 293. Grid ref 958274). There is ample on street parking How to get there Welton is situated just off the A 63 some 6 miles west of Hull. Welton walk 1 Park by The Green and walk up Cowgate with the church on your right. 2 Bear left along Dale Road. 3 Continue straight ahead up a barely discernable slope. 4 5 The rough track gives way to short grass and earth.
