Welton, a picturesque village now
bypassed by the A63 has an attractive
green and church. The Green Dragon
Inn is famous for the fact that it was
here that the infamous Dick Turpin was
arrested in 1739. At the time he was
known only as John Palmer. His identity
was revealed later when his former
schoolmaster identified his handwriting
as being Dick Turpins!
Path details
The first half of the walk follows a very
gradual uphill slope mainly on good
firm surfaces. The last few hundred
yards before the half way point are a
little rough and may be slippery after
wet weather. The three gates along the
route are all wheelchair accessible with a
RADAR key.

The Green Dragon offers light
refreshments lunches and evening
meals. The nearest accessible public
