Version - 5/23/2016 Rubric for Boiling Point / Freezing Point lab This lab was performed in groups. For this report, you are allowed to turn in one report for your entire group. Make sure to use the correct number of significant figures and provide units in your report for measurements and calculations. The report should be constructed with correct spelling and grammar in paragraph form and must be produced on your computer using Word® processing system. This allows you to create a neat report with tables, subscripts, etc. Use equation editor for all equations/calculations. Double space the report, include page numbers and print it on white typing paper with no holes or ragged edges. Introduction – 15 pts This is a short background on what the lab is about. What is freezing point depression, or boiling point elevation (be sure to tell me about the one you did, you do not need to tell me about both). Give the equation you will use, and define all variables. Procedure – 15 pts This should be exactly what you did, using your exact measurements. Do not simply copy the procedure from the lab manual, but type what you did. You only need to provide enough detail so that a reader could repeat your experiment. Data – 25 pts You should make a data table with all of your data including masses, and each temperature reading that you took. Make sure to include proper units. Calculations – 25 points Show me how you used your data to determine what your unknown compound is. You need to use equation editor in Word for your report. Analysis of unknown (what is your unknown) – 5 points Tell me what your unknown compound is. If you don’t think you are correct, make sure you tell me why you think your data is wrong. Conclusions – 15 points Continuation of the analysis of the unknown. Explain what may have gone wrong, why your results may be different than what you expected, and what you would do to make your experiment better if you could repeat the experiment. Summarize your important results.
