BELOSSELSKY BELOZERSKY
Orthodox. — House originating from the male line of Rurik, founder of the Russian Empire, through his
great-grandson Saint Vladimir the Great, Grand Prince of Kiev and his own son, Yuri “Dologoruky”
(“Long arms”), Grand Prince of Kiev, founder of Moscow (+ 1157).
His descendant, GlebVasilkovitch (b 1237; + 1278) became first Prince of Beloozero (“of White Lake”;
Belozersk, Novgorod), 1238 — previously forming part of the principality of Rostov — and married
(1257) Feodora (+ 1273), daughter of Sartak Khan, granddaughter of Batu Khan (himself the grandson of
Genghis Khan); Prince Yuri Vasilievitch (+ 1389) was the last sovereign prince of Belozersk; Prince
Alexander Mikhailovitch Belosselsky (b 1752; + 1809), Imperial Grand Cupbearer and Hereditary
Commander of the Order of St. John of Jerusalem (Russian Priory) was authorised with his descendants
by Imperial Ukase of Emperor Paul I to add Belozersky to his name, 27 Feb 1799; confirmation of the
princely dignity by the Governing Senate of Russia 26 May 1804 and 4 Oct 1845.
Arms:- Azure a Crescent Argent in chief surmounted by a Crosslet patty of the same and a Sea proper en
point charged with two Fish proper salterwise debruised by the Sea and the head of Azure (Belozersk);
upon a mantle Gules doubled Ermine cords and tassels Or; the whole ensigned with a princely coronet.
Members of this House bear the title Prince (Princess) Belosselsky Belozersky.
