JUNE 18, 2017 - THE FEAST OF THE BODY AND BLOOD OF CHRIST
LITURGY SPOTLIGHT
Adoration proclaims our belief in the unique presence of the risen Christ in the Eucharistic bread and wine
and is a sign of our communion with our Lord and each other. Adoration is a sustained response of awe and
worship to that presence and union.
FROM THE DESK OF FATHER CASEY
......Some Christian denominations speak about what
they refer to as “Eucharistic hospitality”: any
Christian of any denomination should be able
to attend a Christian service and receive the
“Eucharist.” Therefore, they criticize us for
insisting that a common celebration is not
a point of departure for restoring Christian
Unity, but a point of arrival.
.....For Catholics the Eucharist is the greatest expression
of Christian Unity, which is why a common
celebration of the Eucharist is the goal we strive
for in ecumenical dialogue, while at the same
time realizing that all other obstacles to
full communion between Christians must be
resolved first.
......We all do a little Eucharistic adoration in the silent
moments after receiving Holy Communion
(I hope; if not, start there), but do we spend any
more time with Our Lord than that? Do we
ever visit him for no other reason than spending
some quality time with him?
......The blessing of having the Eucharist is that
Our Lord is sacramentally present; the Eucharist
reminds us physically and gives us a place to
go and be with him sacramentally, whether we’re
participating in Mass or not.
.....If there is an adoration chapel near you or times of
adoration scheduled at your parish, pay Our Lord a
visit. You’ll be amazed at how much silent adoration
of Our Lord will help your spirituality.
FATHER’S DAY BLESSING
.....Some Christian denomination deny that it is a
Sacrament, others that Christ is really present
in the Eucharist at all. If we do not share the
same faith regarding the Eucharist, we don’t
really have full communion with each other
and participating in the Eucharist as if we did
would be a lie.
.....The sad fact is at this moment we do not share
full communion with each other, and we must
keep praying and working for that day when
we can all celebrate one Eucharist as one Church.
.....In today’s Gospel, we were taught that the Lord
wants to remain with us. Do we want to remain with
him?
.....How do we show that desire to remain with him?
Reception of the Eucharist is a start, but Eucharistic
adoration is the best way to go the distance.
God our Father,
in your wisdom and love you made all things.
Bless these men,
that they may be strengthened as
Christian fathers.
Let the example of their faith and love shine forth.
Grant that we, their sons and daughters,
may honor them always
with a spirit of profound respect.
Grant this through Christ our Lord
Amen.
On this day that our country observes what is called,
“Father’s Day” may we as Catholic Christians pause
not only to honor our human fathers, but even more
importantly, also honor through, with, and in Jesus in
the unity of the Holy Spirit, God the Father from whom
all is created. Whenever we give all glory to the Father,
Son, and Holy Spirit, it is the Father’s Day. We extend
to all fathers a Happy Father’s Day!
JUNE 18, 2017 - THE FEAST OF THE BODY AND BLOOD OF CHRIST
REST IN PEACE FATHER KELLY
I am sure most of you already know of the death of our
pastor Father Kevin Kelly on Tuesday morning. We are
all deeply saddened by the passing of such a young
priest who has been the shepherd here at the Epiphany
for only a short while, almost two years.
Father wrote in his farewell letter to the parish that his
time here at the Epiphany was his greatest time spent as
a priest. We grieve and pray with the Kelly family and
as a family here at the Epiphany.
The ministry of a priest brings him into the many facets
of peoples lives. For the past two years Father Kelly
has been a part of parishioners birth, baptism, weddings,
and funerals; from the womb until the tomb as we say in
the business.
Please join me in a prayer for the repose of the soul of
Father Kelly:
Eternal rest grant unto him O Lord, and let perpetual
light shine upon him, may he rest in peace!
May his soul and all the souls of the faithful
departed rest in peace. Amen.
The details of the funeral liturgies for Father Kelly are
as follows:
Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
Soon our diocese will take up the Peter’s Pence
Collection. Our participation supports the charitable
work of Pope Francis as he reaches out to those who are
marginalized and suffering around the globe. By
supporting this collection, you joint he Holy Father in
bringing a little more mercy into the world.
Pope Francis called to us in his 2016 Urbi et Orbi
address, “May efforts be made everywhere to promote
the culture of encounter, justice and reciprocal respect,
which alone can guarantee the spiritual and material
welfare of all people.” We are taking up this collection
to be part of the Church’s effort to promote a culture of
encounter and justice. Your support makes it possible
for the Holy Father to carry out his charitable works
around the world, to help victims of war, natural
disasters, and other difficult situations.
This year the Peter’s Pence Collection will be taken up
at all Masses on the weekend of June 24th and 25th,
2017. Let us join with our brothers and sisters in faith
from around the globe to help Pope Francis reach the
marginalized in our world. Please prayerfully consider
how you can best support the collection this year.
Gratefully and with best wishes in Jesus Christ,
